Reactivating Thunderbird on UPC

Incorrect Title initially- It should read
    REACTIVATING THUNDERBIRD

Please forgive my inadequate IT competence, but I wonder can anyone advise, please!

Up till last week I had a Thunderbird email on my computer, my ISP being UPC.
    My e-mail addres was tom.******@upcmail.ie

Then last week my computer died dramatically, I saved the hard disks but the e-mail settings etc were lost. I now have a new laptop and want to re-establish my existing Thunderbird e-mail. MY ISP is still UPC.

Now I downloaded Thunderbird onto my new machine and tried setting it up.
I think the following settings are correct-
    POP3 / Incoming - pop3.upcmail.ie
    Outgoing / smtp.upcmail.ie
I think I know the password.
I don't know which PORT to select.

I have failed so far, my password being rejected.
I have tried resetting my settings in Thunderbird, but can't change them to the above, the first part of my e-mail address keeps inserting itself into the incoming and outgoing settings.

I may have entered incorrect details into my settings at first and they seem to always reappear, although I have tried deletingthunderbird and reinstalling it

I rang UPC, who confirmed the password, but said they didn't offer support for Thunderbird. Very disappointing.

    Any help appreciated

If your details are correct - check them by logging to online UPC webmail - uninstall Thunderbirs - chose remove all accounts and private data, delete Thunderbird folders from Users/YourUserName/AppData/Local and /Roaming, reinstall Thunderbird and set it up. (that's for Windows 7)

Many thanks for your efforts, SoftDan.
I did as you suggested but sadly, to no avail.
The UPC server doesn't recognise me.

If you are sure the problem is not the password then try a different email client.

There are lots to choose from. The incoming mail is normally on port 110 and outgoing on port 25.

For UPC the username seem to be your full email address e.g. Joe.Bloggs@upcmail.ie

Thanks FSL, I felt like giving up on Thunderbird all right after a few days of frustration.

    BUT

I've finally cracked it just now at 2am!

What I think happened was that I entered a slightly inaccurate user name initially when I got my new laptop.

    This was my error-
I entered my user name in the form of "joe.bloggs2" instead of "joe.bloggs2@upcmail.ie"

I had everything else correct, but with an error on the user name, naturally the UPC server rejected my attempted entry.

I downloaded Thunderbird and re-installed it repeatedly for days, but always felt I wasn't able to reconfigure my settings, it's as if someone had hidden hands on the steering wheel, if you understand.

    Then I read this
    -http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird#Windows_Vista_and_7

Seemingly when I first downloaded and first entered settings, they were retained in a "roving file" and a "local file", which I located with the help of the above link.

I yet again deleted Thunderbird, but this time also the Thunderbird settings from the "roving" and "local" files. After downloading Thunderbird again and re-entering the correct user name and settings, I eventually had success!

Thanks to both members for all your help.
