Honestly, I was trying to buy a 25 bag of weed. I was rolling a cigarette on the street and this guy asks me if I've a spare one. Long story short his "friend" was selling and I ended up sitting in some sitting room of a Polish house for two hours. The guy I met came back with his girl and some guy I didn't know. They were initially surprised the dealer hadn't come to drop off the stuff yet but were probably drunk or on some hard drug and proceeeded to get violent, punch me in the nose and make it bleed, and steal my wallet, phone and iPod.

I was walking home ready to call it a night but I ran into these two guys and they saw I was bleeding and brought me to police officers. I was in shock so I had no problem at the time giving them all my details. Now I'm supposed to go to the police station tonight at 9PM to give a statement.

I read on citizensinformation.ie that I can get in as much trouble for trying to buy weed as you can for simple possession (which is a fine for a first offence).
    What should I do?

Talk to the Garda or a solicitor about it. I dont know what offence your friend is talking about. Im not aware of any attempted posession charge. But I think the garda will be much more interested in getting a conviction for robbery and drug dealing.

Personally i think you should stop being a moran. Only a fool of the highest proportion would allow themselves to end up in a situation like that in the first place.

MagicSean: I didn't say my friend said it, I got that from a Government website.

"Attempting or helping others to commit an offence
It is an offence to attempt to commit a drug offence covered by the legislation, or to help or incite someone else to commit the drug offence. If you are found guilty you are liable to be sentenced as if you had committed the drug offence. "

Well you probably don't have much of a choice now as you've already reported the crime and they probably know where you live. You might get into even more trouble if you don't turn up.
But it's a little silly reporting a crime by someone else while you were in the process of committing a crime yourself...

I know it's silly....but I was in a daze at the time and probably wouldnt have said nything if those guys hadn't found me.

However it's not possible to prove whether I was trying to commit a crime, whereas it is proveable there was a crime commited against me.

As far as I am aware there is no offence of intending to buy a small quantity of cannabis.
