    Manchester United v Bolton Wanderers
    Old Trafford
    Kick-off: 15.00 GMT
    Referee: Peter Walton
    TV: Setanta Sports 1

    Team News

Manchester United - Sir Alex Ferguson will take a check on a trio of minor knocks before finalising his line-up.

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have taken time to get over problems they sustained in a collision during last Sunday's FA Cup win over Manchester City, while Anderson took a blow in training this week.

Ferguson must also decide whether Paul Scholes is fit enough to take a starting berth after his shock retirement U-turn last weekend.

Man Utd (from): De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evra, Jones, Smalling, Fryers, Cole, Carrick, Valencia, Park, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, Giggs, Rooney, Welbeck, Berbatov, Hernandez, Diouf, Keane.

    Bolton -
Bolton manager Owen Coyle is ready to play Gary Cahill after his proposed move to Chelsea was not completed in time.

Zat Knight will be on the bench as Cahill returns to the side and partners David Wheater in central defence.

Coyle will make a late check on goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, who is nearing full fitness after a thigh strain.

Bolton (from): Jaaskelainen, Bogdan, Wheater, Cahill, Boyata, Knight, Eagles, Robinson, Muamba, Petrov, K Davies, Klasnic, Tuncay, M Davies, Pratley, Ngog, Blake, Reo-Coker, Steinsson, Ricketts, Riley, O'Halloran, Lynch.

I'm expecting De Gea to start today. It's a bit of wait and see with the defence.

Scholes surprisingly may get a start, Fergies thinking being get control of the game early, dominate possession and hopefully notch up a couple of first half goals.

Surely Utd won't slip up again at home. I'm optimistically going for a 4-0 win to Utd. Scholes to score a 25 yarder.

I'd look this up, but access is fairly limited in work.

What was the last goal Scholes scored?

Last season, Fulham away in the league well over 12 months ago.

    de Gea
    Rafael
    Ferdinand----Evans
    Evra
    Valencia
    Carrick
    Anderson
    Nani
    Rooney

    Welbeck

If Smalling is fit, I'd expect him to play ahead of Ferdinand.
If Anderson is injured, any of Giggs, Scholes or Jones to play.

Hope for a big win today, don't want us to take a 2 goal lead then sit back.Look what happened against City in the cup-cruising at 3 nil then nearly threw it away.
Goal difference could be a factor this season so I hope United make up some ground today.

Anything is possible with this United team so it should be a good match. Come on Utd!!

Despite a general sense of pessimism towards the club, I can see a 4-0/5-0 today.

Expecting Nani and Valencia to tear into Bolton's defense.

Hope De Gea plays and Rafael at Rb .

Just hope we win so i can give my mate who supports Bolton stick :)

As always Ill take a sloppy 1 goal win right now, dunno how anyone can be confident of 4-0 wins atm.

If Rio Smalling Ando are all out then this one is gonna be tough.

Might do if the odds r decent.

But honestly cant see why Utd cannot turn Bolton over today easily. They will have learnt from mistakes against Blackburn and played well last week going forward. Defence just needs to tighten up again like 4 or 5 matches ago.

And if the defence is going to be weakened still it doesnt look good does it

odds are 13/5 with pp for -3 im sure if you ask them they will give you a price on -4.

If we start the game with Scholes and Carrick in the middle thats not a whole lot of mobility is it? and if Ando is out who else is going to start int he middle? Giggs? again mobility isnt very good. Park? Jones? now Jones wouldnt be the worst, but he really needs a break and if the defenders rumoured to be out are out he will be playing centre half regardless

was his 150th goal i think also.

i expect a big win today to get our league back on track, hopefully a 4-0 win with rooney getting 2, one for nani and one for hernandez.

think de gea will be in goals and hopefully those minor knocks have cleared up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

Hopefully the knocks are not serious and we can play a good strong team.

If we can play a good strong team

    Raf
    Smalling
    Evan
    Evra
    Val
    Carrick
    Ando
    Nani
    Rooney---Welbeck

then Id be confident of a good win

if we have to mix and match due to injuries then im not so confident

Even if Scholes starts ahead of Ando thats ok to me, we should have plenty of possession with that team so Scholes should get time to spray it around

The killer instinct has been missing this season is my biggest worry

My UPC planner is telling me this is in live in Setanta ( NB not Setanta 1 ). Might be a mistake, might save me a trip to the pub.

Mmmm my bad. Reckon I was reading the wrong page.

Scholes better not start today. That is embarrassing if he does. He was awful against Man City. Whilst he may have ran around and looked to get on the ball, that is grand when the team is dominating possession, but it was when City had possession that Scholes just could not handle the pace of the game at all.

    EDIT: FFS

and we all know the extreme pace Bolton play at...oh wait.

Carricks performance will be interesting today with Scholes starting along side him, at home to at bottom of the table club.

Could be worth a pop for first goalscorer or anytime scorer

    3-0 United for me

Woohoo, something resembling a classic Utd formation. Expecting murder on the wings.

I like that team, I really like it. Still not too pushed on having Scholes there.
Really fancy us to get a few goals here.

Anderson not even on the bench? I think he needs to get out of United, doesn't look like Fergie rates him at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,959 ✭✭✭Jesus Shaves

Considering Bolton have just sold their best defender anything other than 4 or 5 - 0 is not good enough

    Lets go team!!!

Expecting Welbeck to bang in a few. Scholes relishes these matches, we brought him back for this reason alone.

Turtyturd has probably posted in more united threads than liverpool this season, if anyone is obsessed, it's that chap.

Always something negative aswell he chimes in with.
