On Jobseekers Benefit - Offered job abroad - quick question

    Hello guys,

I just have a quick questions regarding the JSB.

I have been on it the last few months (about 3 months), and I was eligible because of the PRSI contribution I made. I have found a job abroad, in another EU country, and have been told it may be possible for me to claim my unpaid contributions when I leave.

Is this possible? The person I spoke to in the Citizens Advice place said that because I'm on Jobseekers Benefit and I have been offered a job in a fellow EU country and that I'm leaving to take it up, I could be entitled to upto 12 weeks payment. Now, this was a bit of a shock to me because it sounds very unbelievable - is he really suggesting I'll be eligible to receive 12 x 188 = over 2000 Euro? Seems to good to be true.

I have a meeting with him next week, but I'm just posting this here to see if anyone knows anything about this, and whether it's possible?

Thanks, looking forward to your replies.

    Rog

I've never heard of this. You will be working, so no entitlement to Jobseeker's.
If you are on Jobseeker's benefit and are going to another EU country to look for work, then you can transfer your irish Jobseeker's Benefit to the other member state and get paid that weekly over there (as long as you register in the member state as unemployed).

As Cee Jay says... if you are receiving jobseekers benefit in Ireland for 1 month you can apply for this payment to be transferred abroad within the EU if you are seeking work. If you already have work abroad then this payment does not transfer.

For other people looking at this thread to be eligible to have your payment transferred up to 78 days if you have to be in payment for 1 month.... you have to give an address in the country you are going to... you have to have an Irish bank account where the money can be transferred into and you have to sign on in the relevant country within 7 days of going there and have to adhere to their criteria for jobseekers... eg. signing etc.

This only applies to people on jobseekers benefit.

Additional note for OP... if you are let go from the job you are going to... you can transfer your contributions from Ireland to the host country presuming its within the EU and qualify for their equivalent of jobseekers benefit.
