So you're looking at Alfa's, VW's, Toyota's, Nissan and Hondas?

It also seems like your budget is up to 2.5k.

And you want something reliable and will keep going for the next year?

    Some questions first:

    1: Annual mileage?

    2: 3dr or 5dr?

    3: Engine size restrictions?

Sorry, but you've really left what you asked wide open.

If I was you and wanted something to drive and then sell on quick, I'd but something bangernomics or similar. Something with an okay engine and pretty reliable.

Your answer probably is this if you want to spend under 1k:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2883263

Pretty clean looking and would keep going no problem. One years NCT and basic and reliable driving that can be taken out the motorway if needs be. It's bland, yes, but at least it will do what you require no worries.

I could bore you further, but I await your response first to see if that tickled your fancy at all.

    hi barura,
thanks for your reply.. i like the look of the cars i suggested and they seem reasonable too...my budget is E2500 but id probably rather spend E1500ish if i could get something decent... your suggested car is cheap as chips and fits the brief but i think its a bit too rough looking without being too snobby about it.
i'm not too concerned about mileage as long as the car has a few years left in it..i reckon 120,000miles is about as high as i should go but i really havnt a clue of whats reasonable on what car. don't care what door type it is, engine size: i'd prefer something economical on fuel and tax..
i left it wide open as i'm not too clued in on cars...i tend too prioritise looks more than i do on other things perhaps.. i would like a safe car too...airbags etc. (i work in acquired brain injury).. what you think of the cars i posted? thanks again

Saab 9-5 was the safest car ever tested by the NCAP at the time. Plenty of them around for your budget.

There's a minty looking rover 45 diesel on the bangeromics thread t the moment for something like 900

Personally I'd go for the golf first then the civic wouldn't be crazy on the rest. German or Japanese is all you should consider so at a stretch the Nissan but its a horrible car so forget that. Golf is the way to go nice car to drive anyway

thanks unkel, the tax and insurance on a saab 9-5 would be quite alot more than my current rover 200 1.4 right? any estimate of tax?

colm; i guess this is the rover your talkin about http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2872048 i spotted it on bangernomics it looks good alrite, what would tax be on this does anyone know?

whats other peoples views on the rover?

donalg1 thanks for your advice, yea the golf ticks the boxes, wonder if that civic has airbags... what about the mazda? probably be expensive to tax and run due to the 1.8..

    nobody rooting for the alpha's...:o

Tax is 660 or the year, got the renewal for my 2.0 today.

The civic has driver and passenger airbags alright, I'd be a bit biased and pick that as its the same model as my car. In fairness its not a bad buy, I'm not going to say its quick but its nippy enough and it happy on the motorway too. In a years time you could probably sell for the same amount too. Want to just check has timing belt been done its due second time round at 120k.

    Mitsubishi Colt:

Reliable, long NCT and a bit of tax.

Bang on. Make sure the oil is cleanish and on the level and belt done.

Cheap, very reliable but terribly boring motoring. But it does EXACTLY what it says on the tin.

If you want cheap A to B, no questions asked then ^ thats your answer.

(edit) I have a set of steels with great tyres for it for sale :D

interesting deal alrite, reckon i'd prefer to buy a golf for that price..think the colt might be a bit small and girly...its tax is out of date in the photo...its a lovely little car tho..looks brand new... thanks.. (sorry if im being a bit too fussy)

    http://www.adverts.ie/car/honda/civic/honda-civic-1-6-for-sale/852988

I posted this in the Bangernomics, I cant believe the price as I consider it a great model Civic and won best on emissions in 2003 in Asia,(lots of airbags too) I considered buying it myself as I own the same model but in Automatic and Metalic blue, was thinking I could drive this one and let the wife drive the Auto. Anyway Christmas threw me so wont have money for a while and am considering getting a type R next year anyway.

There are plenty of ALFA's(;)) out there that would suit you and plenty with NCT for in or around €1k. This for example
