    Hi,

I suggest renaming the "mobile & PDAs" forum to "Mobile Providers and Phones" or "Mobiles and Smartphones".

The term "PDA" is a legacy term that is not used much these days.

The forum title needs to be updated.

Agreed. "Mobiles and Smartphones" seems the most appropriate.

"mobile telephony" would cover everything but would not show up in the quick forum search for 'phone' (not that it currently does). As smartphones are mobile phones it doesn't make sense to list them separately.

Where does iPhone/iPad discussion go, as a matter of interest?

Cheers. That seems a little obscure. I don't know if there's any sort of tag/alias system possible in the database where one forum can be identified by a series of search words in the forum search (so e.g. iPhone, iPad, iPod would find Apple Media Devices)?

It seems very difficult to make any sort of logical structure in the Tech category with so much overlap.

I'd agree with "Mobile Providers and devices" but not with "Smartphones and Mobiles".

There's already a forum for Android and a forum for Apple devices. Once Windows Phone 7 starts gaining a bit more market share i'm sure a forum will be made for WP7 devices too. If we called the forum "Smartphones and Mobiles" it'd be inundated with posts about Android and iOS that are better suited to the Android and Apple Media Devices forums.

"Mobile Providers and Devices" would cover discussion of mobile networks, novel technologies and "dumb" phones or phones/tablets with obscure operating systems.

Android would cover discussion of the Android OS and all Android devices (As the difference between tablets and smartphones is becoming more a matter of scale than anything)

Apple Media Devices would cover discussion of iOS and all Apple mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad (But not the Macbook).

The only other ecosystem that actually has a hope of reaching the market share of iOS and Android is Windows. Whether that be Windows Phone 7 equipped phones or Windows 8 ARM tablets. The situation should be monitored and forums created or deleted where necessary.
