Who would you folk regard as the most "high-profile" female student/alumna on campus?
    I realise "high-profile" is relative...
The reason will become clear in due course.

Yes, in that I'm looking for a token female.
    Positive discrimination for the win.

    Regarding Alumni.....
    Siobhan McKenna?
Alice Perry? (World's first female engineering graduate)

Hillary Clinton also got an honorary degree here a few years back if she counts as alumni....

Sorry - I should have mentioned it would have to be someone who could theoretically be persuaded to come to NUIG, and therefore alive.
I don't rate an Honorary degree.

Máire Whelan (the Attorney General) I would imagine

Martin Sheen was a student here 10years ago or so. And he is still alive!

    Better than any woman.....

    That was in 2006, actually.

September 2006 to January 2012 isn't really 10 years or so.
I felt it important to make the distinction as I was here when Martin was knocking around campus, and I feel old enough as it is without your gammy calculations.

I must say, Ficheall must be the most condescending pr**k on boards.

He actually turns me off posting on this forum with his annoying attitude and I have been wanting to say that for a long time.

Ah now, insulting random people for no reason is fairly sad...
Sucking up to the same people who do that is.... ???

Making a funny word to describe someones a**hole personality doesn't make it any better to be like that...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,717 ✭✭✭Raging_Ninja

Ficheall is like the grumpy old guy with a cane who likes to trip people up for his amusement. Enjoy him while you can.

Besides, he doesn't insult people. He is just more knowledgeable than them, and isn't afraid to show it. Bluntly.

Sheen was here a little over 5 years ago, I remember seeing him around myself. And 5 is a fair bit smaller than 10.

Personal abuse is not tolerated on boards. Would ye just stop it?!

I wasn't describing his asshole...

I didn't come up with the word either, some other guy in another thread came up with it and it's been used once or twice around here since! :p

I'd love to reply but it would be removed again.
All I said was that if I was to meet somebody with a lower IQ, taking an insulting or demeaning approach towards them would not be my first choice. Sorry RolandIRL if you find this offensive then just ban me or something.

Cian I was not talking about a body part there...

I've no reason to be offended by Ficheall, I was just annoyed by his fan club...

    Whoops, read it wrong! :p

    He has a fan club?

Just noticed this thread is responsible for an update in the charter!

Well, fair play to you for finally doing so.
I deeply regret that my posts discourage you from sharing your rational, well thought out and witty posts with us.
I must say, Ficheall must be the most condescending pr**k on boards.
Because I corrected something that was patently false or because when then condescended to with a "good lad" by illustrating the falseness with returned condescension?
Ah now, insulting random people for no reason is fairly sad...
Is this one directed at me too? Did I insult mangled when I said 5.5 years was not the same as 10years, is that it?

That's fair enough - though I think you'll find Reillyman coined the term to irritate or poke fun at me. He is certainly not a fan. I don't mind satire when it's done well though.

Condescending prick, though I may be!

So who DO we think is NUIG's greatest female student/alumna?!!

    >_>
    <_<

I'm surprised boards' own Tar.A hasn't been mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

Actually, as it happens, I've rearranged things now so that we have two highish-profile males and one non-high profile female for the event.. so if you'd prefer to lock the thread, then that's fine.

Though it would be interesting to see what high-profile female alumnae we have. There's a world champion silver-medalist walker, and Grainne Seoige (diploma), and a newscaster for whom the first result returned when you google her name is about her cleavage, but aside from that I couldn't find anyone terribly interesting.

Garry Hynes should probably be on the list of contenders at least, though I would rate Siobhan McKenna higher.

For Ficheall's purposes though, Garry has the advantage of being alive! :pac:

    EDIT: Ah, too late!

Yeah it was a mixture of both I think. Although Skopzz is fast becoming Ficheall's ultra-hardcore brother, but I think he is doing it for the lols, sadly I cannot say the same for you Sir.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

    Doing what?

    And Skopzz is just trolling.
