What do you think we would have the hardest time explaining to them?

I think it would be a tough one trying to explain about those super morbidly obese people in America who weigh about 200 stone and end up fused to the bed or chair sitting in their own poo while someone has to come in everyday to wash all their folds to make sure that they don't go mouldy and how yes, they are just a normal person and technically there are still bones hidden in there but their desire to eat outweighed their desire for any sort of a life.

What can you think of that the aliens would look at and say 'huh'?

What makes you think that the aliens want anything to do with us. They'll have a totally different make up. They could exist in an alternate dimension.

Well personally I think they've been here before and know all about us but i'm talking about a hypothetical situation where they don't know anything about humans and come down to learn about us:)

I've often thought about how we would explain to them why people socialise by leaving the comfort of their own homes to go to a much grottier house (the typical Irish pub) where there are very few seats and they can't hear each other very well cos the music is so loud that everyone shouts.

Haven't you watched the factual documentary ancient aliens. aliens are responsible for absolutely everything humans do.

I don't think anything we do would surprise aliens, they've more than likely gone through similar things in their own development and I think it's highly possible may have been observing this planet and it's life for almost as long as life's been on it. They would know us better than we know ourselves.

The gross inequality in the distribution of resources and wealth, and the insane overuse of resources in parts of the world (including food).

I'd have a hard time explaining that to a human.

As Stephen Hawking says, we better hope they come in peace. If they are intelligent enough to locate and travel to a planet this small, likely hundreds of light years away, they will be a lot more intelligent than we are.

    Music.

Obesity is a survival thing: animals are evolved to like high-energy foods. War is a tribal/competitive phenomenon, and you'd have to expect that aliens that were capable of making it to earth would also be highly social. But why should it feel so good to have your eardrums vibrate in certain patterns?

You won't be doing much surviving if your body has grown around a chair and you can't move without 50 firemen lifting you!

Yes, but it makes perfect sense that you should find obese people. Historically, food was scarce enough that we didn't need to evolve an 'off' switch for our drive to eat.

have you not seen Close encounters? Its all just numbers, different frequencies, thats how they communicate...

They would not make direct contact if they were to land here as they would have known how we treat other aliens (E.T). So they would study other humans and notice that most of them have smaller humans (kids) so they would go to an adaption place and adopt some children, but soon the kids find out that they are aliens but the kids dont tell the government on them because they do not want to go back to the home. After a while lots of funny almost scripted funny sh it starts to happen.

If aliens came down here tomorrow,Id ask them to take Sinead O'Conner back with them and probe the fcuk out of her.

Maybe that might shut her up once and for all.

That's actually pretty simple to explain. And it applies to a lot of things. Taking things to dangerous extremes is very common in lots of cultures. People like to eat, some do it too much. People like to drink, some do it too much. People like to do drugs, some do it too much. All types of addiction fit this mold.

I think you'd have a lot more difficultly explaining any of our contradictory social customs. Like 'Gender Equality'. Because, lord knows, nobody (especially women) actually want gender equality; but they sure do want certain types of gender equality. But not others. And only at certain times.

Or cultural diversity. 'It's good to have different types of people working here. But not because people are different. If people are different, then you might say that people from country X are better at Y than people from country Z - and that would make you racist (or nationalist - but you can use skin color if you want). But - if we're all equal, how can there be value in having different cultures.

Very presumptious to assume they have no life. To some people sitting in a chair all day eating would be all they want out of life.

I think the hardest thing to explain would be the toilet. There has to be some other way of getting rid of waste from our body that technology is missing.
