Read this who doesnt no things around

TV aerial / receiver installers will play a key role in ensuring the successful roll out of the SAORVIEW service in the next 18 months.

The aerial installation trade in Ireland is unregulated at present. SAORVIEW is not in a position to establish the competence of any aerial installer. However, SAORVIEW is working with a number of trade bodies with competence in this area who undertake vetting and registration of their members. The following organisations are recognised by SAORVIEW and are listed on our website. These organisations will be able to provide consumers with a list of registered members in their area.
And there is only 7 official saorview approved company's who are saorview approved installers. And i can write a least 8 who are not!
But i am not kind of person like some of here.
    So what about them!!!

    What planet are you from?????

And to what government do you pay tax?
The tax rate you quote for that website is 15% yet it advertises installation work here where the full vat rate is 23% for goods. I think you have done an outstanding job on promoting yourself here and also ensured that everyone on this site gets to see you for the racist that you are. Bravo!!!!!

He closed his boards.ie account and spent the rest of the night removing the Saorview logos and the card sharing details from his website. http://www.hdsatservice.com/Digital-TV-Installation.html. He forgot to edit his adverts.ie account.

    Hi Trhiggy83,

If I was starting from scratch I would get a Saorview approved TV (You would need an aerial installed)
I would get a Freesat set top box (You would need a satellite installed)

If your Sister already has a tv without Saorview, a combo could be an option. (Both satellite and aerial)

Plenty of info on all above prices on attached link, both supply only, DIY or Installed.
    http://www.satellite.ie/index.html

    Hope this helps.

Cheers for the replies lads, i see ye got a little bit sidetracked.

My sister does have a new tv but not too sure if it is a saorview approved to be honest.

Pardon my ignorance her but if you have a saorview approved tv, does this mean i dont need a saorview box but would still need an aerial  sorry this may be a stupid question.

I know she will need the satellite for the freesat

    Thanks in advance :pac:

No need for a box if the tv can decode the signal; it doesn't necessarily have to be Saorview approved.

Post the make & model here & we'll try to tell you what's what.

She could get One of those combination boxes that combine an Arial and cable from a satellite dish if it's an old ( not Saorview compatible) tv I have a 50" plasma that I bought in Currys but won't take Saorview I got a Triax Hd 537 combo box from tvtrade it worked ou fine got all the free to air satellite channels and Saorview channels & digital it seems to be working away grand and I didn't have to replace the tv which would have left a serious hole in my budget

Nice to see this thread eventually get back on topic. If the tv is new it should be saorview compatible, try a €2 aerial and get the tv to scan for all available digital channels. If you pick up 3e,RTE jr etc then you have saorview. All you need then is a freesat set up for UK tv and you're away.

After all the bickering on this thread I'm surprised the op just didn't ring Sky after reading some of the posts here.

And by implication, if the crappy €2 aerial doesn't pick up anything (very likely), the tv won't work with Saorview? Pretty daft suggestion.

Better than using a coat hanger,I only suggested a €2 aerial as a cheap way to see if the tv picks up anything. If it does then happy days,if not it didn't cost the earth.

If the analogue reception is decent with it,then sods law is that the saorview reception will be ok even if the op needs a saorview box-if not then get a decent aerial.

Too many posts here have over-complicated the whole topic, not everybody is tech savvy when it comes to saorview or satellite tv and prefer to have things explained in simple terms they can understand. They don't care about MUX's or transponders, they just want to get tv reception.

As Peter said if you can post the TV make and model - some one could give you more advice.

And I suggested posting the make & model of the tv which costs nothing & takes practically zero effort; make the most of the resources at hand ie this forum.

 Rubbish; the best posters here achieve a good balance of technical info & a practical way to relate it to the average user.

The kind of "hit & hope" suggestion you make has no place in a useful technical forum.

@Trhiggy83; if it's a recent LG model it will at least be capable of decoding the Saorview signal. If you tell us where your sis' lives, then you might get a half decent recommendation for a suitable aerial, even if it's only to supplement Sky (& don't get me started on people who have an irrational hatred of Sky).

This thread got bogged down in too much tech speak,go out on the street and read half of it to any joe bloggs and they wouldn't have a clue what you are on about. For people who are tech minded it's grand but 90% of folk's eyes wouild glaze over and you might as well be talking Klingon.

I was 100% correct in one of my posts that all the guff in this thread would lead to them ringing Sky-guess what happened;)

A large percentage of people just want plug & play solutions as many of the threads started show. What I suggested was as simple and cheap a way of trying out the tv.I set up a saorview box for someone who is the same as the op,no clue about tuning tv's or setting up a fta system.I explained the process in simple language that he could understand and guess what,I plugged on a €2 aerial that was sat on top of the tv and got perfect reception. That doesn't always happen,my house is in direct line of sight of Mt.Leinster and I had to install an attic aerial but it shows that sometimes that the simplest solution can work.

While the majority of replies in this forum are excellent (I myself find them very informative) sometimes they can get overcomplicated. It seems as if certain posters are in a game of one-upmanship over who has the most technical knowledge while ignoring the real reason as to why some threads are started.

Sometimes the simple answer is best-don't knock it.

The thread got bogged down by people arguing with that Kacaks guy.

People come here looking for sound advice; they can get what you're offering from any clueless man in the street/shop assistant.

Don't want to get into a pointless argument with anyone here but what you're saying is bull.I've been at this a while and deal with the public everyday regarding tv and they prefer to get things explained in simple plain terms they can understand.
I can give technical advice when needed and take the laymans route also to ensure people understand what I'm talking about.
The salesman in a shop simply wants to sell more stuff,we've heard enough on here about "now missus you need the super high speed cables for your new telly,a bargain at only €100".

Just go to the terrestrial thread to get plenty of examples as to how the public are baffled by all this, the Saorview information campaign is a disaster and the sheer amount of posts looking for advice is proof of this.

Sorry I don't want to play your game of "I know more than you".

Anyhow this thread has run it's course-the op has stated that Sky has been ordered rendering all your brilliant advice irrelevant.
