Howdy, due to a knee injury i gotz to get out of the mountain biking game. So i am thinking of buying a nice fixed gear bike, wheres the best place to pick up one of these new funky fixed gear ones? The kind of retro ones with the flash coloured wheeels and frames, i see the odd one around town but i neve rgot a chance to stop anybody and ask.

Also are these bikes fast? Will i miss my gears?? Any info appreciated.

On Track would be the place to go, its on cooke street..drop into them. http://ontrackdublin.com/
not sure funky and flash should be your prioritys if you know what i mean but they have some quality bikes that look well too ;)

fixed gears are great for getting around, have been using them for near 3 years now and never miss the gears really, honestly though with a knee injury you might be better off starting off single speed or go fixed with a real light gearing..i run 40-18, good bit lighter than most but i also have problems with my knees so it does the job..
anyways drop into on track, they'll tell you what you need to know

I suppose on track on Cook street would be a good place to start looking for a fixie.
As regards whether or not they're fast. Technically track bikes can be very fast but generally any bike bought on the basis of funky colours isn't ridden fast as that makes it harder to pose.
You might miss the gears if you want to do a lot of hills or long distance but you can change the gearing by changing chainring and cog size.

This place seems to have opened recently near my office, I only noticed it last week while sitting in traffic and they have some very funky looking ones in the window.

Definitely go down to On Track, they have stuff to cater to pretty much any price point. Plus they're good lads.
