General Feedback Thread

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year thus far. I just wanted to start a general feedback thread to get the input of both regular users, new posters to boards and/or this forum as well as the lurkers!

As you have probably seen, I'm slowly attempting to introduce the new policy of using adverts.ie to deal with 'for sale' and 'wanted' type advertisements. A new FE1 thread has started and I will try to get the King's Inns and miscellaneous threads done tomorrow or over the weekend.
The general idea behind the new rules/regulations is to keep these threads from getting overly cluttered with long ads, discussions about who has what, offers, counteroffers and all the general chat that can make it very difficult for posters/readers to navigate threads. Generally, ads are not allowed on many fora on boards.ie, but I think that by keeping the trade on the designated website (e.g. adverts.ie) we are circumventing and avoiding possible problems in the future.

The purpose of this thread is for you all to post your comments, questions, concerns and ideas for not only the 'for sale' threads, but also the forum in general. For example: I'm not married to the idea of forcing users to link to adverts.ie (as it is a relative of boards, I just felt it was easier) – if you'd prefer that the instructions are more generic so that you can link to ebay or whatever external advertisement website you want, then I'm open to that!
We also recently started a FAQ thread which is very sparse, but I'm hoping to work on that over the next few weeks and would really appreciate the help in compiling the questions as well as the answers!

So... now I'll open up the floor to the rest of you to share your comments/concerns/suggestions regarding the Legal Discussion forum and how it has been working recently as well as what you'd like to see in the future. (keep in mind that the 'no legal advice' rule is not going anywhere anytime soon due to general boards policy).

What about a "Common Issues" Thread. The first post could list common issues and threads associated with the issue. Users could post suggestions and the list could be updated with links to the threads.

I'm talking about threads such as clamping, adult caution, police cert of character, powers of search etc...

My reasoning is that the mega-threads such as the tv licence and freeman threads are too long to be of use anymore. So if someone has a question that was already asked they will never find it in the mega thread and will just have to ask it again.

Their seems to be a lot of homework getting done on legal discussion's of late. I thought their was a rule about this.

Not going to happen but I'd love to see people who troll, offer stupid political opinions or give completely erroneous advice get a proper bollocking.

    It's a legal forum - not politics.

I don't follow mega-threads. Occasionally, I might look at the first and last pages - but then I missed what was happening up in between. Possibly limit threads to say 4 or 5 pages at the most.

Many threads tend to veer off the main topic and could then be split into another thread.

    Just my cents worth

I was thinking a common issues thread could be one in the same as the FAQ thread. Simple answers are given in the post and longer discussions are linked to the thread?

In general, I agree... but for some of the ones like TV licence questions and the Freemen stuff, it's way better to have it all contained to one neat thread rather than a bunch of them all over the place. As for off-topic posts, it's something that has really started to ramp up here and I'm keeping an eye one it. I usually don't mind a slight veer once it's in line with the thread... but when it's too far it's usually easier to lock the thread.
The main issue I have is that I don't want to over-moderate the place.

Would you break common issues into areas of law like criminal, family etc or rather specific issues such as clamping, maintenance and so on?

Within the general thread, I think that's a good idea.

    Oooops!

Sorry, I didn't realize that I´d jumped back to "Legal Discussions". I was in a different section (Property and Accommodation), pressed the Mozilla Firefox back button and hit on you post, which I replied to.

However, my comments still stand but refer more to boards.ie in general.

"Legal Myths" sticky, or section within the FAQ?
