DMF noise isn't usually affected by pressing the clutch. The best thing you could do is take the car to a good mechanic and have them listen to it. The internet is not an ideal place to diagnose something as subjective as a noise.

DMF's can fail in different ways so the noise/symptoms can be different in different cases.

    Where are you based?

Could be the DMF starting to go. It may progress.

As above, you are only up the road from us. I would be happy to have a quick listen and give you my opinion on the noise if you want.

My mothers 07 C-Max had a similar issue and it turned out to be the flywheel. After significant haggling she got the cost of repair down to 1500 euro. She put off the fix for about 6 months and her hand was pushed to fix it when the clutch stuck to the floor and wouldn't move.

I hope you're luckier than that.

Passat DMF change costs nowhere near €1500.

recall is underway, as is one on diesel pipes on the CR engines.

Yep in ireland, not so funny story...I just got mine replaced today and it broke down on the way home. Dealer reckons "the fuel pump was probably on its way out and this put the final pressure on it" but I'll start another thread on that...!

From reading the description OP it does sound like the flywheel to me - I've the same model/year as yours and had to get mine replaced last year for the same symptoms.

There's a plate bolted to the engine beside the turbo which sometimes works its way loose (on passats and all similar VAG variants)...may not be noticable when the engine is colder (and slightly noisier)...but any decent mechanic should be able to tell you what it is.

    Good news at least.

I wonder will they be reimbursing those who have had to replace their own injectors up until now?

A lot of people in the UK got their money back after the recall started over there.

Was that not only if they paid full whack at a vw approved service centre?

Sounds like the concentric slave cylinder went there, and unfortunately she was ripped off for the price of that particular clutch kit.

Get your man to check the throttle housing motor as well, the teeth on the gears can strip and cause similar noises. Usually accompanied by a fault code though and a tendency to run on when switched off...

The OP was down with me today and the noise is indeed the flywheel ;)
