    Hi All

I need a little bit of advice, i don't want to go into which accreditation is better or worse i just need your knowledge. I have a degree in IT but i really want to do accounting (i don’t know why i didn’t do this in the first place as i have wasted alot of years of my life now).

Its important that i make the right choice this time around as i’m 31 and i don’t want to waste any more time on wrong choices. What i want to know id can i do the ACA or do you have to have a business / accounting background?? What is my route in??

I was all set on doing the ACCA but from other posts ive read the ACA will give me a better chance if i want to go away to work, is this true?? I havent decided where exactly but it will be one of the following 4 Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada.

The only background i have in accounting is Leaving cert a very long time ago so i look for your advice which would be better suited if i would like to move away with the qualification?? hope you can help

Check the Chartered Accountants Ireland website and see do you get an exemptions. If not you would have to do the elevation programme with them but you may have to do accounting technician course first.

You could go straight into ACCA exams.

Do you want to do auditing or have you an idea where you plan to specialise?

    Hi there,

Would you consider going back to full time education for 2 years ?? My suggestion would be to maybe do a conversion course ie (postgrad in Accounting) this course is offered in DCU , DIT , UCD etc. At the end of this course which will run from sept-may you will have ACCA exemptions f1-f9. And Aca CAP1 exemptions.

You could then go on to do a Masters in Accounting( I am currently doing one) where you will gain Cap2 exemption leaving only your FAE to sit.

Considering that its only January and these courses don't start until September , I would say you would have plenty of time. I would contact the college directly in relation to whether you will gain access or not , unfortunately I cant be of assistance there.

    best of luck
