laptop disconnects internet ever time

    hi
when i would connect to the internet on my laptop using the wifi the wifi instantly crashes, it had been working grand for about 2 years and all of a sudden this happens, basically i would connect up to my nepodia router and then the internet light would go red and the dsl light would start flashing non stop, i tried to reconnect numerous times but it wont work.
when i turn off that laptop and turn on the desktop or another laptop it reconnects no problem.

initially i thought it was probably the wireless in the laptop so i used the Ethernet connection, once i plugged it in the internet light went red and the exact same time and the dsl light started going crazy again.

the ethernet port is rarely used so i dont see how this could be broken too.

even if i fully disable the wireless and plug out the ethernet cable the internet wont have a solid connection until i shut down the laptop and give it a while to reconnect.

anyone have any idea what the problem is? its wrecking my head

Make sure the laptop is using DHCP to get IP Address automatically, you can access these settings in Control Panel>Network & Sharing Center (Network Connections in XP)>Change Adaptor settings>Right click on the network adaptor>Properties>TCP/IP v.4 settings and choose get automatically for both IP & DNS. Apply and see if it helps

thanks il give that a go. hopefully it will work.

my internet is running really slow after trying to get the laptop to work,

i might try one of these if it still dosent work.
should bypass any of the broken components right?

    No.

If its your router that is flashing then thats where the issue is.

    Dont buy.

You need to find out why your losing your DSL link. Ring your ISP ( Eircom ? )

    yeah eircom

it works grand with the 3 other laptops and desktop in the house so.

literally the instant the laptop is connected to the router it disconnects from the internet

If you log into your router there should be diagnostic software built in, im not sure if thats just for teating the connection between the router and your isp or if it tests the firmware aswell.

Log into the router from the desktop, run the diagnostic without the suspect laptop connected and see what happens. Take a screen shot if possible. Then try connect the suspect laptop and run the diagnostic again and see whats changed.

all that comes up is that the DSL is down

once the laptop is disconnected its up and running in a few mins.

from what i understand the DSL is the actual connection, you need the filters on all the phone lines or a DSL error will occur, so thats why i dont know why is coming up when the laptop is connected.

the diagnostic isnt very good really

Does the laptop do it to other wireless networks? try it on a neighbours or something.

yeah just tried it on my friends router.

it worked on both wifi and eithernet, going to try a different router and hopefully that will work.

if not il try get a new one off eircom, il be lucky if that happens

Did you try my suggestion of ensuring your not specifying manually an IP address that exists?
