Hi......Im new to boards.ie and really need some advice.

Ive recently graduated with a degree in civil engineering and was hoping to gain experience in Ireland but this is proving difficult.
However, Ive decided to move to UK to get experience so was wondering does anyone know of any companies that are currently hiring civil engineering graduates anywhere in UK??
I would be open to any type of position as site engineer, design engineer, surveying or project management.

I would greatly appreciate any advice at all or what would be the best way to find a position in UK.

    Thanks!

There are some jobs but they are very limited and so the market is extremely competitive, especially in London. Pretty much all of the big companies hire grads on a yearly cycle so I'm afraid you've missed that boat. You should get applying right now for grad positions starting next September/October - some companies applications will be closing soon.

If you're looking for something now then all you can do is seek out smaller companies and apply directly. The NCE Consultants file would probably be the best place to find companies but I don't think it's free to access any more. It won't help your cause that you aren't living in the UK (are you planning on moving over while looking for a job?).

    Thank you for the reply.
I did miss the boat for the companies that took on grads in September gone. At the time I decided to concentrate on my exams and projects in order to get a good degree.
I was hoping to find something fairly soon as I really want to get experience. Ideally I would like to have something secured and then make the move over. I don't mind having to travel over for interviews.
Would you know of any websites that smaller companies would use to recruit grads or trainee's? I had a look at the NCE website but as you said you need to be subscribe to them first.

I think you'll find that most small companies probably won't be using recruitment agencies. You can just appraoch them directly. Call up and find out who exactly your application should be addressed to and their email address. Best of luck.

check the main consultants hr websites, you have probably missed the boats for graduate programs for consutants that run them

i recently moved jobs, i'm a civil engineer, the position was only advertised on the consultants website, so no engineers ireland, no irish jobs ad as these cost money
