I'm thinking about investing in new TV and after hrs of research keep coming back to this model.

It doesn't appear to be listed in Saorview TV thread - no mention of PXXG30B tvs at all - but Currys.ie say its got an Irish digital tuner.

Before I go waste a lot of money on something thats not going to work with the new aerial I got fitted (have a humax for free to air) can anyone advise of the irish digital shortcomings?

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/PANASONIC-VIERA-TXP50G30B-50andquot-Full-HD-Plasma-TV/309450/339.0

    thanks

according to the spec it has a
    DVB-T2 digital Freeview HD tuner
this will pick up saorview but it is not approved. may not be able to do mheg5 stuff in the future.
ask to see the set showing saorview, prior to purchase.

its likely I'll be getting this delivered from the North so not likely to see it showing saorview first - does anyone have anything to add to John macs response? thanks.

According to Panasonic all 2011 Panasonic models have MHEG5 but are not Saorview approved. If you go to www.panasonic.ie and select the 'Support' tab you can search for 'Saorview' and see Panasonics position on Saorview.

I have the Panasonic P42GT30B for some months. The picture is superb (IMHO) and it has terrestrial and satellite tuners. You can select Ireland or UK when installing. I selected UK as I wanted the full Freesat functionality (EPG etc) which if I recall correctly is not available if you install for Ireland. When installed for the UK the Irish digital channels on terrestrial appear starting on channel 800. (You have to first select the tuner with buttons on the remote). That suits me fine as 80% of our viewing is Freesat channels. I have a 2TB drive attached for recording programmes but note that when recording you cannot change channel from the one being recorded.

I also have a Ferguson Ariva 120 Combo attached with a 1TB drive so between the TV and the Combo I have plenty of options for recording and watching any channels.

I was thinking of buying one of those Panasonics (TX-P46gt30B).
I emailed Panasonic and they gave reply at link below. No guarantee of Mheg5 service in the future. I did not buy.

Just here looking at my new panny 42inch that arrived today from France (only ordered last friday...)
    Bought it here http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/9603938/art/panasonic/tx-pf42g30-plasma-screen.html

Reason for buying was price, not really concerned at MHEG5 support at the moment - have both upc and satellite hd.
Can confirm that it receives all Saorview channels - aerial is only a small omni directional aerial that works with usb tuner on laptop.
Teletext works okay, but no video displayed in corner, so assume MHEG5 not supported.

They also do a 50inch version which I think is cheaper than UK price - might be worth looking at if you going outside the country anyway!
