Probably eating a load of grallochs the poachers are leaving behind on the hills.
Fox's would need to be looking their best this time of year also because it's mating season.

I know plenty of lads that gralloch and leave them off to the side to give the foxes a free meal and keep them out of mischief.

I dont know anyone who brings them home :pac:

they're gone in a couple of hours anyway when left in by the ditch out of sight

You obviously missed my meaning in my first post,
Most stalkers take a couple of deer at most in the day poachers take as many as they can fit in a transit therefore a lot more grallochs.

most fox that are healthy will have a fine coat on them at this time of year, as this is when they need it most.
a big thick coat would be no good to them in the summer.

they eat everything from birds to bunnys and everything in between.
they are scavengers as well as successful predators, so they will take advantage of any scraps left behind by hunters or even break open bins for a cheep meal.

in short they have their winter coat at the moment. and they are successful hunters/predators

    Well done. Grand fox.
It would be interesting although smelly to open the stomach to see what its being feeding on.
The last deer I shot had bits of black plastic from bales aswell as grass and ivy in its stomach. It gave us an idea of their movements. I've heard of it being done with game birds also, but never with a fox mind you

We used to do it with trout to see what flies they were taking.

I've opened a few foxes with ballistic tip's so i have seen some of what they eat :D

That one Paulo shot was the biggest Fox I have seen to date, and in fantastic condition.

i cut open a fox once and i will not be doing it again in a hurry.

at the carcass handling seminar last year the vet cut open the a deer and found a long length of rope inside

Classic. Like the scene in the movie Snatch:

    Avi: Tony.
    Bullet Tooth Tony: What?
    Avi: Look in the dog.
Bullet Tooth Tony: What do you mean "look in the dog?"
Avi: I mean open him up.
Bullet Tooth Tony: It's not as if it's a tin of baked beans! What do you mean "open him up"?
