i was looking at the dell offer on bargain alerts, but was told that the graphics card was not the est.

i really only want a PC for games, and one that will allow me to play games at a decent frame rate etc for a long time to come.

i have not played games on the PC for 8 years, nor have i really changed many parts since then. back in my college days i would have been comfortable enough in building my own PC , but with the cost of things these days i would be afraid i would mess it up !

    1. What is your budget? €800 ish , can be a bit flexible

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming - COD , Battlefield etc etc

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? yes

5a. If yes, what size do you need. 20 inch plus

    5b. NA

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Wireless Card / mouse/ keyboard !!

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

    8. How can you pay? many methods, CC, paypal , etc etc

    9. When are you purchasing? i'm in no panic, if it is better to wait , then so be it, 8 years without PC gaming , so a month or so makes little difference to me :)

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? i'm in Cork

With the fact that you need all the peripherals, and a monitor and copy of Windows, you might be better saving up another €1-200. €600 for a PC (excluding Windows, peripherals, etc.) is an awkward price-point. It can be done, but you'd probably get better value for money with €7-800 to throw at it.

    I stand corrected!

Nice build, I didn't think you could fit a 6870 in there.

You could get the upgrade version of windows 7 from software4students and perform the "Double Install Method" to get past the activation error. Would save you €40.

With that €40 you could upgrade the HHD to either the 1tb f3 or 2tb f4.

Not the 2TB F4, thats a 5400rpm green HD so its not really suited as a boot drive.

    thanks for replying.

is it worth spending as bit extra for a better graphics card, or is it easy to upgrade later on as the price of other cards comes down ?

also how hard would this unit be to put together when it arrives ?

    thanks again

If you'd be willing to wait a few more weeks until AMD releases their 7000 series GPUs prices of all the other GPUs will surely drop a bit then.

I've never built a PC from scratch myself, I just got hardwareversand to build it for me (they do it for 20euro) but apparently its easy enough if you don't want to spend that extra 20euro.

after a long week at work, so have a bit more money than i expected at the moment, so i could probably go to €1000 all in for the PC

is there much of an advantage putting this extra money in, or is the build ye recommended fine for gaming.

my Eircom netopia router has had a few falls, and only has 1 aerial barely hanging on, so i could do with a new router too. i was going to get one off amazon linky
edit : will they also assemble this for me ?

You could up the processor to a 2500K, and the motherboard to an ASRock 1155 board, and the GPU to a 6950. That would give you a big bump in performance.

And yes, HWVS will build (almost) all of it for you for €20.

The 2500K is a well worthwhile investment. Also worth considering are homeplugs e.g., these ones from amazon. They work well in providing a stable connection in most cases.

They built the full thing for me, I heard some people say that they leave the GPU out in case it gets damaged during shipping but they didn't in mine.
They put everything together and gave me a box with any spare wires, manuals, and cds.
