And he also wants the Irish Government to foot the bill for it. Doesn't quite sit right with me that Fine Gael would want to commemorate the the establishment of an organisation responsible for a campaign against Irish Catholics primarily.

    What do you think?

Jesus he really is taking the piss. For a Donegal man, it's rather brave.

It is all fine and well trying to put the hand of friendship out to the Unionists, but this really is spiting into the faces of many in the North, even Donegal people. Why commemorate this group who wanted to stand in the way of even Home Rule?

Ah, they are still the Common Wealth party. Always down with pandering with the minority,

Maybe Joe should concentrate on extending the hand of friendship via business initiatives and jobs between both communities. I use to think that he had some sense.

'pandering to the minority' I can see that you have no interest in any hand of friendship. As for this anniversary the uvf he is talking about is nit the same uvf as the 1960's group. But following the logic so far on this thread, no doubt you will be happy enough celebrating the ira in 2016

I wonder if the government of the North will make a similar gesture on behalf of the IRA?

woo you really showed your intelligence by comparing the men of 1916 with a sectarian organisation!

i would recommend reading the proclamation of 1916 and suggest you take note of where it guaranties religious and civil liberties! unlike what the UVF wanted!

Shame it took so long to come into effect.

Absolute madness. Commemorating that. He will lose votes by the bucket load.

UVF whether old or new is not something Irish people should be paying any respect to.... ever.
