K Club Overnight Offer saves €246

    The K Club have used the 'Deal' type sites a few times and they're doing it again.

    "€169 instead of €415 for an overnight stay for 2 in a Superior Room with Full Irish Breakfast, a Glass of Champagne plus a €30 Resort Dining Credit at the magnificent 5 Star K Club!"

    That's a big saving and, more interestingly for you romantics at heart, it doesn't exclude Valentine's Day itself (just Saturday Feb 11th) or Paddy's Day if you see that as an opportunity to 'celebrate' in posh surroundings. The offer expires on the 16th January, and you can use the voucher until the end of March.

    Golf is not mentioned in the offer, but a quick check on the website indicates golf on the Palmer course is €75... I would expect that you can get it for less than that as a hotel resident... and just hope that it hasn't rained too hard - remember the Ryder Cup!

    You'll find all the details and 'how to buy' here.

    Based on how Druids Heath looked a couple of months ago when I played it, I wouldnt go back if they paid me €198. I expect sand and not weeds in my bunkers...:(

    GreeBo, im a bit confused here, this is what u said on bunkers in the winter on a different thread 2 days ago (i don't know how to quote from a different forum so i have copied and pasted);

    Sure, it shouldnt be rock hard (signifying that it never gets a deep rake/turned over by the grounds team) but on a wet day the sand is going to be firm and compacted until it dries out. IMHO you need to be able to play out of it...its the same for everyone anyway on the day.
    A bunker is a hazard, not an opportunity to have a perfect lie...

    Please pay specific attention to the bolded area and once you wipe that egg off your face, i'd be interested to hear why your stance has changed.

    I've personally never seen any weeds in the DH bunkers, there is a distinct lack of sand in them and thus they would benefit from a rake and place policy during winter months and hopefully be sorted for the summer. Apart from the bunkers being too firm with compact sand, it is one of the best conditioned parklands i've seen in the winter months, i couldn't get over how quick and smooth the greens were in December and again in January, furthermore, it is playable year round with great drainage and minimal plugging of the golf ball

    Ah yes remember it well wobbler, your comments said;

    'its not an honest course',

    I'm still trying to understand that one. Personally i think its a great test of golf and very well maintained with a caveat on the bunkers (which do not have weeds but definately do not have enough sand). 12 pisses me off but apart from that a very good golf course. I recently joined so obviously there is some bias there but i guess i'm just expressing my opinion. It is a top class facility at at reasonable price with no joining fee. I personally think it divides opinion as some people find it too difficult and therefore do not like a course they cannot score on. After a couple of rounds I feel opinion would change as like any other course you will learn where to go and where not to go.

    I think you hit the nail on the head
    it just might have been a tad too difficult for Greebo and this might have tainted his view on the place
    unfortunate

    Redzah, I'd rather not fill up a K Club thread with this, but it's not an honest course. Good shots aren't rewarded. Seemingly (from reading other threads) great shots are rewarded, but in my book it's a flawed golf course that requires perfection in order to be enjoyed.

    The course has protection from its length, from its bunkering, from its inconsistent green speeds, from its angles, from the obtuseness of holes 12 and 2. That's too many things in favour of the course imho. Call me a pussy, but I don't play golf so that it can beat me up. I'm more than capable of doing that by myself.

    By the way, since my Heath trip, I made it to Royal County Down, a course that so many people hate as it's deemed cruel and unfair. I found RCD to be tough but completely fair and completely loved it as a result. I've never been as frustrated by a course in my life as I was the Heath.

    Ya ur right should prob not go into it and agree to disagree on this one, never played royal county down but from what i hear its up there with the best links in the world, i think too much bias gets placed on how one scores on a course as to how much they like it. I like to try an appreciate a difficult course as long as its fair, that's why i have an issue with the 12th on DH as its not fair with no bailout area whatsoever off the tee or on the approach (2 is fine btw). For instance Adare is a difficult course if played off the medal tees but its so much fun hitting long to mid irons into greens instead of 9 irons and wedges in other places, it makes you earn your score whilst appreciating the diificulty and design of the course and if u have an off day u will not score well whatsoever.

    On the above offer, while it seems decent, it annoys me that there is no golf inclusive price, for instance why can't they say Excluding Golf Price €169 and Golf inclusive price for 2 €269

    Went around as a caddy with a euro tour pro. He was in bad form at time so perhaps tainted.

    But he said it was one of the worst courses he ever played, his point was that good drives are not possible due to landing areas is wrong place. I liked the look of it , but was suprised to see him so upset with the place. He played with poor form , he is off the tour now.

    Out of interest, can you remember what holes in particular he was referring to?

    No it was 2004, only remember it coming to a head on 14. I was sick i got him and not D Clarke, S Garcia, R Goosen. Was a Taylor Made junket for them.

    Fair enough, it was probably stewing from 12 so in which case i'd agree with him. 13 has a landing area albeit with a 6 iron off the tee so that prob pissed him off two.

    I've been a member of Druids Heath for the last few years and rarely break 33 points......having said that I now consistently break 36 and sometimes well into the 40s when i play other courses. The course is relentless but its very improved by ballstriking.
