    Hello people,

Long time reader, first time registered poster .

Im basically looking for some advice and/or information relevant to my situation :

Ive been made redundant, through a series of misfortune, ive has to move back in with my parents in the meantime .

Now im aware that I have enough stamps to claim Job seekers Benefit .

However my girlfriend has got a new small house ( private rent ) . She has a son with some problems and is currently on Carers allowance and the household benefits. (kids not mine, just for information , in case it matters)

Basically i wish to move in with her, and i am wondering like is the fact im on Job seekers benefit going to affect my stamp payments or her payments ?

Im not sure how many stamps i have up or the period from which i can draw from them, therefore if i have to go to job seekers allowance, will that then affect her / me .

I suppose basically what i am asking, does the means test for JSA take in account her carers allowance as income

and does Carers allowance /household benefit take into account my job seekers benefit ?

Sorry as you can tell, im not exactly familiar with all this .

been working all my life and this is all a new territory to me .

When/if you move with your partner, what you can do is add her (and her child) on to your Jobseekers claim as dependents. You will get 124.80 for the partner and 29.80 for the child added on to your Jobseekers claim.

As well as receiving the increase on your payment, your partner can then also claim the half rate Carer's Allowance. So between the two of you, you will actually be slightly better off.

If neither of you have any other income from any other source, your rate will remain the same when you make the transition to Jobseekers Allowance.
