Niall Quinn was registered as our third choice goalkeeper.

Was thinking If we register John O Shea as our third choice for Euro 2012,could we gain a place for an out field player.

    N. Korea Tried to do that for the WC, were told he could only play as a 'keeper.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

In the Italia 90 video, Quinn's in goal for a few pen's during training IIRC

I wasn't aware a keeper was restricted only to play in goal.I remember united playing a game in Japan or china and barthez played as a striker

I wasn't aware of it either until it happened to them

    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/World-Cup-countdownb-North-Korea-have-been-told-by-FIFA-that-Kim-Myong-Won-will-only-be-able-to-play-as-a-goalkeeper-and-not-in-his-usual-role-as-a-striker-article447017.html

I think if you want to bring 2 keepers you should be allowed. Stupid, but it's your team.

Jesus that a blast from the past, watching that clip brings back memories of checking Aertel for scores of matches and watching the matches on Sports Stadium, the days of having only 2 channels on the TV

    That's club football.

For the World Cup squad you have to register three players who can only play in goals. Not sure if it's the same for the European Cup.

Never heard that about Niall Quinn but I remember a couple of world cups ago teams would often bring only two goalkeepers. Presumably FIFA changed the rules at some point.

Remember Sports Stadium when they show a 3.00ko, but would start the game 3.30 on the show, basically half hour delay.

Before even aertel it was like watching it live and with no mobiles nobody could tell ya the score etc. Sky was really only starting in those days

Those were the days. I feel old and sound like my father:pac:

Is a world cup squad 23 players now to facilitate three goalies ?

I remember going to my mates house and they had the "Multi Channel",so he had Ceefax which told you who scored which Aertel didnt at the time unless one of the Irish lads scored,Aertel was no longer the same after that :)

Sure David James came on as an outfield sub for City in the last game of the season a few years ago, even had an outfield jersey

I`ve had red wine, but the referee reminds me of Emlyn Hughes.

I'd say if push came to shove they'd have no problem if you chose to play Kieran Westwood outfield, so long as you had picked three recognized goalkeepers in the first place.

The North Korea ruling was just to stop them taking the piss by only bringing just two and an extra outfield player; because when squads had been increased from the traditional 22 to 23 it was specifically for an extra keeper.
