canyon frame sizing

I'm looking at the canyon website with a view to purchasing a canyon road bike. I've gone through the online sizing and they are saying a 50cm frame would be the right size for me. Currently i am riding a medium planet x sl carbon frame, and find it perfect for me, with a 110mm stem. I also have a felt frame which i have built up, its a 54, and i find it perfect for me also. I'm planning on doing some serious cycling this year, and also compete in a couple of triathlons. If anyone who has bought from canyon could tell me how they got on with their sizing or did they just enter in their normal frame size. Also, how do they find their individual bikes overall. Read a few reviews, all with good things to say about them, but nice to hear from actual owners! Cheers in advance.

I've a roadlite six, can't fault it. Replace the shimano chain with something better, I put a mavic on it but apart from that I've had no issues.

Size wise I'm a 56 on Canyon and a 56 on other makes I looked at too

I tried the Canyon website size chart and it gave me a very strange result. My Cube is 58 and my Boardman is Large (TT is 57.5 i think) and Canyon wanted me to get a 54. I even got a tape measure out instead of guessing the measurements they wanted, so I was wondering about this too (not that I can afford a Canyon yet!)

I went up a size to a 58cm for the same effective toptube length as other 56cm's I rode.

I have the Ultimate AL 9. Its now last years edition but I did at least get it discounted.:) Can't fault it (apart from a dodgy rear Kysrium which is Mavics fault not Canyon). Bike is as light as a carbon frame I had recently and feels stiffer when putting the power down. The ride is a little harsher as you might expect from Aluminium, though I believe Canyon's carbon frame offers similar characteristics. The fancy VCLS seatpost and the smaller diameter seatstays supposedly do all the damping.

Overall the bike was great value with a full Ultegra gruppo, decent wheels/tyres and Ritchey WCS bar and stem. Highly recommended bikes on here.

I'm not sure if I'd prefer a Canyon or a Cannondale CAAD10 at the moment. I'm leaning more towards the Canyon as I like the white and the CAAD 10's in white at the moment are in team colours and I'm not into that.
Did you use the sizing chart velo & CM?

Yes, as a confirmation of what I sort of knew. Canyon prompt potential buyers anyway to submit their 'vital statistics'. I knew my size and what toptube length I wanted plus the 58cm came with the longer stem - useful because of the oversized steerer diameter they use which means its difficult to source those particular stems. Headtube height was the same as the smaller Trek I had.

I too have a Canyon Ultimate AL 9.0 (2011 model), I am 172cm (legs & torso in proportion) and using the Canyon guide I opted for 54cm frame and, happily, it fits like a glove (a comfortable glove, not one of those huge outsize-fingered trip-to-The-North-Pole types). I can't compare this frame size to any previous bikes I've owned because they were more of the Small/Medium/Large variety.

I have a 54cm canyon (size recomended by site) and a large planet X procarbon. I am 5 10/11. The Canyon is a perfect fit, the planet X slightly to big. I have had both profensionally fitted and with a 90cm stem on the large planet X it is fine, but I much prefer the canyon.

I have a 56cm Canyon CF SLX 8.0. The bike is fantastic. Their web sizing app is less so. It recommended a 52cm for me, but I took the measurements from my 56cm Cannondale R1000 before purchasing and looked at the equivalent geometry on the Canyon website. My Canyon 56cm fits very well, although I'd have also gotten away with a 54 I'd say. A real performance bike by the way, stiff, responsive, while also being quite comfortable for longer rides - I've done a few 200s on it, with a 234km as long as I've gone on it. No problems.

    I'm 178cm (5'10.7") btw.

I'm 5' 7" and used the sizing software and got the recommended 50 cm model. It fits fine but I reckon I could also have got a 52, as it seems that the software shades things on the smaller side. It comes with quite a short stem so if you are used to a longer reach then you might need to change that. If you are in Dublin soon I could give you a look at it for size.

6 ft here and riding a 58cm CF, sizing app was telling me to go for a 56cm, but as with karlmyson above I had a good look at the sizing geometry on the site and compared it to what I was riding at the time, ended up with the 58 and it's perfect, although I did need to swap the stem out. Think I saw mention somewhere that the geometry may have changed with the current models so bear that in mind when following people's examples of height to frame size here. Bear in mind that the only place you can get a stem to fit is Canyon themselves, but they swapped it out for me free of charge.

canyon will give you give you any size stem you want, just add that into the comments box when ordering or email them prior to making the order, no need to be stuck with a short stem

The only thing that the Canyon sizer yoke looks at is your inseam. None of the other measurements make any difference to the recommended size. It looks like an all encompassing calculation but its not.

Dont go by the Canyon sizing calculator, im 6'2", it recommended i get a 62cm, i ignored this and got a 60mm and swapped the shipped 120mm stem for a 110mm (no charge). Bike is perfect now and i love it to bits

Work out the effective top tube lenght you need from sitting on other bikes in shops and looking at their geometry online when you get home and order the euqivalent canyon e.g. a 58mm trek/felt (cant remember exactly) fitted me very well in a shop so i ordered a canyon with the same effective top tube measurement (575mm) that turned out to be a 60cm Canyon!

All good info to bear in mind, come the day I take the plunge.

    I'm 5' 8.5"
The canyon calculator told me to for the 52 but I went with my normal size (54cm) and it fits fine.
I saw a 52cm canyon in cycleogical one day (in for a service) and it was a bit on the small side for me.

Thanks to all for the advice, based on comments here and comparing measurements from canyon website and off my own bikes, reckon i will be going for the 54.
