League Of Ireland - what is "success" for the coming season?

What club do you support? What would be a "success" for the coming season?

    Shels.

Not getting relegated back to the First Division has to be the first and foremost aim for this season, if that means going out of the three cups to non-league opposition, I'd take it for a finish one place above danger.

If that is secured, then a finish somewhere around 5th or 6th would be very good, I don't want Europe in 2013 for Shels, I want us to consolidate in the Premier, and think about Europe no sooner than 2015.

Oh, knocking Pats out of the Cup would also be lovely.

    Not sure.

    Bohs supporter.

    Not get relegated.
Keep the same feeling of solidarity within the supporters.

    Bohs

Survival is the name of the game, both on and off the pitch.

I'll be happy once we avoid relegation, though I reckon it'll be a close one. Would like to see some of the kids really step up. The likes of Buckley, Traynor, Lopez and Feely (And Forrester if he hasn't signed for Pats...) all played a part last season and could be big for us.

With the immediate short term safe for the club, we need to start making headway with selling Dalymount and sorting out our options for once we have sold it.

Despite the troubles, cannot wait to get back.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

somebody has to do it :(

I don't want to get too optimistic but hopefully with the surprising amount of signings we could keep a sustained challenge for a top 3 finish

Not having to travel to outer mongolia would be a nice change too

I wouldn't say no to Europe or another FAI Cup Final tbh! But staying clear of relegation is a must.

I wouldn't be very surprised if we were in a dogfight going to the last day and bottled it and ended up going down, to be honest.

@Gav, I think Europe would be too much of a distraction in 2013, it's too soon. A run to the FAI Cup Final, yeah, I'd take it, but I'd prefer three points in a league game than winning any cup match this season.

How much is a Shels season ticket? Can't find anything on the website. Tolka Park is beside my gaff so might follow Shels for the new season.

On the pitch-avoid relegation, do well in the cups

Off the pitch- keep the same togetherness from last season and secure the medium term future of the club

Top 6 - mid table finish. Got Sligo and Rovers both at the Cross twice too so hopefully pick up good results there. Good cup run too is a realistic aim.

    Rovers.

Retaining the premier league is what I want.

I would, of course, love to qualify for the Europa league again, but that is a huge long shot.

Not a hope in hell we'll be near the relegation dogfight.

And why worry about us qualifying for Europe? If we do make Europe, it's not like we're gonna go on some mad run.

I expect ourselves and Pat's to be behind the main challengers of the two Roverses and the Derry and Cork franchises.

If we somehow made it into Europe, I'd deem that to be a huge success. One thing is for sure, AM won't be aiming for mediocrity of avoiding relegation.

So many derbies, so little travelling. Bring it on!!!! :pac:

    Rovers.

Retaining the league would be top football priority which will be harder this year.

After that it would be nice financially to get past the second qualifying round of the CL and be guaranteed a few games.

Would love to finally win the cup again.

Off the field, just want to invest in long-term structure of the club in Tallaght especially the youth teams.

No use in lying: thankfully all or some of the above football goals are possible but obviously no way guaranteed.

    Survivol for the club.

punching above our weight would be a bonus but i couldnt care what goes on, on the pitch.

    Cork City

    Finish just above mid table.

Have good run in least one Cup competition.

    Bohs (ish)

    - Not get relegated

    - Not to get food poisoning from the Leo Burdock's van.

    Dundalk

    - I would like to see a honest side assembled that will wear the shirt with pride something we have been lacking since the days under John Gill

    - No Mid/End of season slump

Not much to ask for :)

    Rovers

    1. League

    2. Putting more resources into Kiltipper

    3. FAI Cup

    4. Winning the first tie in the CL qualifiers again

    5. Winning down in Cork

Shels: Higher mid table and to get to see cup final

anything less wouldn't be an unsuccessful season, just a forgetable one unless we stay up on the last day.

With the backing Scully is getting we should easily go up, Waterford will be there but the league is quite poor this year and Limerick should take advantage of this.

Dundalk- Build a team with a view to looking to the long term rather than just this season. McCaffrey seems to be going for a squad of young hungry players which hopefully eans they'll stay for at least two seasons.

I have a complete pain in my bollox seeing the team ripped apart season after season and starting again. Part of supporting your team is making connections with various players and coming back year after year and seeing their legend grow.

Simon Madden and Mark Quigley were outstanding for us last year and could have become Dundalk legends but unfortunately the way things are in the league at the moment players don't hang around long enough to play their way into supporters hearts.

Will be happy to stay up this year. Delighted with a top five finish.

Sligo Rovers winning the FAI cup back to back was nice. Runners up in the League this season, but hopefully we can push on now and win it next season.

About 5th or 6th would be a good season anything higher, a very good season.
Not to be in any trouble with relegation would be very nice aswell.
Cup run would be nice but not too bothered, league position will be far more important.

    Pats

Europe (and i mean the real fcuking Europe not China)

    Win in tallaght

    Relegate Shels

    Retain Leinster Senior cup

    Youths
    There are big changes at Wexford Youths which will surprise a few people. Too early to say if it will pay dividends this year but anything will be an improvement on last year. The target is;

    A larger squad.
Attacking football played on the floor
    More local players
    Return of reasonable crowds
    Mid table finish,

Very impressed with the new manager who seems to share the same outlook

    Mons:

Finish at worst 4th from bottom.

    Beat Dick Crooks Drogs.

    Beat Dundalk.

    Sell millions of mondogs.

    Keep Roddy for 2013.

    Cork City

Depending on how the squad develops in the next few weeks I would hope for us to finish in the top half.

No slacking in any of the Cups.

One to watch : Daryl Horgan. Transformed our play when he arrived from Sligo in the middle of last season. Only 20 so more still more to come. Don't want to overhype the kid but :pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac:

Avoid relegation obviously and hopefully stick about the top flight for the long term

This season (well May), marks the end of the Waterford Utds investors end to the 5 year plan he set out were it's to have them debt free, etc... they're going out to win the League and be promoted.

29 years supporting pats, 29 cup defeats at various stages in row (not a record i know someone who was there in 61!). Why would i want to go to another?

    Believe..it might be this year..

    UCD

Keep on keeping on. We've lost Marshall, Meehan and Harding (our right back), but kept the likes of Barron so it isn't as bad as some years where we would be completely starting from scratch. 40 - 45 points and getting by a few rounds of the FAI Cup would be extraordinary. Just playing decent football and being competitive most of the time will do fine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

    Cork City.

Top half finish. See no reason why we cannot finish as high as 4th. Apart from the Rovers, Shams and SPA, I do not see anyone who will be that much stronger than us.

An FAI Cup final would be nice as well.

Main aim would obviously be to still be in existence and playing in the FD. No team representing Galway for a season would do terrible damage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,334 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

    Wanderers.

Just having eleven players for the first game of the season would be nice.

Supposedly, a lot of nonsense going on behind the scenes. Our squad has been decimated, budget has been slashed and I don't think, as of yet, we've signed any new players, just re-signed a few of last year's lads, including the 40-year-old Colm Tresson, who, unless we start making a serious amount of signings, could be playing regularly.

For the season, I'd like to avoid relegation.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Bray can't be relegated.

I thought it was in the participation agreement that everyone signs, no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭WindmillWarrior

Drogs - Cooke is putting a nice little squad together with a few proven locals included, and there is a fair amount of optimism around the club for the first time in a long time.
Personally I'd like to see us avoid relegation comfortably enough, with maybe a Cup run thrown in. Certainly we'll be looking to finish ahead of the likes of Bray, UCD, Bohs, Monaghan, and hopefully Dundalk!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,488 ✭✭✭celtictiger32

shels - top half, possibly even europe i know it was mentioned it might be a bit soon but **** it i love the euro games. wouldnt mind unearthing a few unknown gems during the year still feel were a bit on the weak side.

i think overall id like to see a bit of stability in the league and start to move things forward especially a few decent euro runs from our representatives.

and lastly id like to see moves being made for an all ireland league but thats for another thread.:D

    Pats

Well they sacked Pete Mahon who did a good solid job. So I expect us to push on and go for the league title. It's the only trophy we have a realistic chance of winning bar the league cup. I'd also like to see us get through some rounds in Europe again.
