Gay Socialising Outside of the pubs and clubs

    Hi All,
I'm 33 and just recently single. I have a fair few friends but would like to meet people for socialising off the scene... Does anyone know of any clubs or social events that doesn't necessarily involve standing around in a pub getting wasted???
    Thanks!

    lots of stuff

    film clubs
    soccer
    rugby
    swimming
    Running
    Skiing
    Juggling
    Acting/theatre
    singing
    tennis
    rowing
    squash
    Trekkie fans
    reading
    hiking
    Outdoor pursuits
    Dining
    Rights type groups
    Drop in centre
Volunteering (switchboard, prides, drop in centre, rights groups)

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Running - http://www.dublinfrontrunners.ie/
    - websites a bit sparse but if you mail on dublinfrontrunners@gmail.com they'll get back to you
    - Runs on Wednesdays on Saturdays. Usually between 6 and 10km. Social as well people go for food/drink after
    - They also run circuit training during the winter, hill sessions in the summer
    - Lots of member support if you fancy doing a marathon etc.

    Squash - http://www.outinireland.net/homepage.aspx?sportid=3
    - Think they've sessions every week and fairly regular tournaments with people at many levels.

    Hking - www.gay-hiking.org
    - Weekly hikes mainly in the Wicklow hills. Usually split it into two groups depending on dfficulty.
    - Occasional weekends away

    Adventure - http://www.facebook.com/groups/WetAndWildSportsClubIreland/
    - Bit of everything. Canoeing, climbing, hiking, scuba, surfing etc etc.
    - Very member oriented. If a member interested in doing something it can take off. Duathlon being talked about a lot now.

I consider myself a masculine guy, like to do guy things like go to the gym, play playstation, go with my friends. Not a fan of the gay scene at all. I don't like the whole gay thing being shoved in your face all the time.

Anyway my question is where do I meet gay masculine lads. I do go online but it is impossible to find guys who are masculine (who are not looking for just sex!). Sometimes when I'm in clubs I make eye contact with guys, but I'm always afraid to approach just encase their not gay. Any other guys have the same problem as me? Where do I meet gay masc lads?

    Irony...
    PC's where it's at.

Anyway, I digress. There are plenty of gay sports clubs/teams out there where you can (presumably) meet masculine guys.

Believe it or not, some masculine guys do go on the gay scene too!

There are quite a few gay guys who like to do 'guy things' - have you ever considered soccer? lol

I've merged this with an existing thread to give you some ideas

You could also consider going to the beers on the 10th March

I used to think I was the only one, but it's just not true, we may even be the majority. As for where to find em, I'm not sure I can help there. Just perseverance, that's the only method I know.

I guess I'd meet your definition of masculine (though I'm an Xbox man myself) and I've met some like minded individuals on the scene.

If you look past the more obvious stereotypes you see the scene tends to be fairly diverse.

Failing that I'd say the gay soccer or rugby teams would be a decent start.

    Hi,

I think this is really cool, I didnt know their was such diversity in different sports for gay people. I love sports! is their any in GAA or Hurling? My BF finds it difficult to integrate into the "scene" and he love GAA and plays at quite a high level, I think it would be a good way for us to integrate at an equal level. Whats this soccer team you speak of?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭paulmorro

Soccer team are Dublin Devils http://www.dublindevilsfc.com/
No GAA team that I know of

Anybody know what this is like? I wouldn't mind dropping in but would feel be a bit strange going down in my own.

say you would be ok, is in Panti's afterall, no harm in going to check it out and have a pint while you decide if it's for you or not. I'd love it though.

I presume it's fairly informal and chances are you will already know one or two people there anyway

****. why did I check this thread sooner!

Definitely going to this if I get up from Mayo on time.

Is it just people having a pint and a chat? Or is there some sort of "open day element" to it were the different groups kinda set out their stall?

Think it's just a mingle but I know the warriors that will be there, will be wearing club jerseys to identify themselves and I assume some of the other clubs and socs will be too!

No way! I totally missed this.

Is there anywhere on the web that lists these sports clubs?

And does anyone know if Out4Tennis are starting up again?

And while I'm at it ... one more question - do Devils just have their 11 a side team, or do they do other soccer related stuff (entering a few teams into astro tournaments etc)

Lots of links on the first page of this thread.

The tennis group presented briefly tonight. They've disassociated from the out4 brand (I think they're out 2 tennis now). They said they'd an event coming up involving international LGBT groups.... Spaces still open for people of all levels.

ara ya, it was a simple enough affair.

signed up to the soccer thing and wet 'n' wild (a outdoors thing) and there was a tense game of giant connect 4.

did anyone on here make it?
