Would an entry level legal receptionist job go any way towards counting as legal experience (for the purposes of making yourself more marketable as a trainee solicitor) or would it be simply be experience as a receptionist (which I don't need, I have plenty!)

ex-Receptionist in our place is heading to blackhall this september as a trainee with the firm. She did work her way 'up' to legal exec after a few months though, studied for her fe1s at night. works hard and good at her job so i'd say they were only delighted to give her a chance.

Good to know. And from your experience would your firm look badly on someone who had FE1s? I have seen some legal admin ads specify that they don't want applications from people with FE1s, presumably as they want a long term employee?

Hmmm, yeah maybe. However it does show you're a little bit au fait with the legal system. I suppose if you be up front with them about it, receptionists kinda come and go pretty lively, they've got to expect you to have some bit of drive about you. It's tough out there but you're better being honest with them in the long run rather than being in the job and in five months time over looked for a trainee position because they didn't think you had the fe1's done.
