Any upcoming 5k fun runs in Dublin/Meath?

I am looking for a 5k fun run to enter in the next 10-12 weeks with a friend of mine who is just getting into running. I've tried looking at a few of the websites that list events but a recommendation would be great.

We're looking for a 5-6k run on a Saturday/Sunday with a relaxed atmosphere, preferably in Dublin or the Northeast. If it's for charity so much the better!

Have a look in the race calendar thread. The links there are to threads on boards, which might have some discussion.
The only one I can think to add to that list is the 5k run on St Patricks weekend in Dublin. Metro St Brigids usually organise it, and it's a good event, but I don't see any details of this year's race anywhere.

Thanks for that. I found the Urban trail series on the race calendar thread and it looks ideal for my friend, a bit of craic and less chance of sore shins than a road run. The UCD one is for a good cause so I think I'll stick that one in the diary as well.

    Thank you, much appreciated.

I was wondering about this one - is it suitable for beginners like a fun run or is a fast "professional" sort of race?

This race is a fun enough race with runners, joggers, walkers and fancy dress too.
Very well run race and a nice setting for a run too.

Well worth the entry fee and a good cause too.

Yikes, just looked at the results page for last year's race and it looks pretty fast to me! Of course that's relative to my very slow pace!

There'll be some very fast students but also lots of others out there to enjoy it. Like this guy from the 2010 race!

Heres a video from 2010 also! We never got around to making one from last years race though :(.

And that chap in the morph suit thingy, He might have looked like a looper but he was actually surprisingly quick ha, about 18mins!

The chap on the left, from last years race on the other hand was totally out for the craic!

But in terms of the Rás, its open to everyone and we encourage as many people to take part, yep the top runners will be battling it out, but don't worry, there is a very large spread in standard and a race as such is suitable for all levels of runners/joggers and walkers!

Love the guys in the suits and fair play to the rather scantily clad chap too! :) Mind you, that was April wasn't it so not quite as nippy as February!

I am such a slow jogger and I just didn't want to feel demoralised in my first proper race by trailing in last .. but hey, somebody's got to do it, right?!

My first ever proper race was the Firhouse 10k a few years ago. I was 4th last and I didn't care.
I was cheered across the line by the stewards and the crowds and some guys who had finished 20 minutes before me. All that mattered was that I was inside my target time and It felt great.

I caught the bug that day and haven't looked back.
