Surround sound for gaming

    Ok here goes...

I've my PC connected to my TV via HDMI cable.

I recently purchased this surround sound system:
    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/LG-HT806PH-51Ch-DVD-Home-Cinema-System/305063/194.1

I have my PC connected to the sound system via optical cable, and have Digital Audio (S/PDIF) set as the default device.

I've absolutely no idea how to mess around with the system via PC to set up my system correctly. Especially for games, I know they do not send out DD or DTS signals, only uncompressed sound.

I believe there's some sort of messing around to do for encoding, such as with an AC3Filter, and now I've just discovered LG systems do not decode DTS.

Sorry if I've made little sense, I've just rushed into this thinking I knew it all, I could get it working, and now I've no idea what to do!

If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it.

    Kind regards,
    Sean.
