Over the past few days I had the privilege of spending my first holiday of 2012 stalking Deer in the Commeragh, Galtee Mountains, Slievenaman and across the Reeks of killarney.

I took a very relaxed view to my trip as I was under no rush to return home.
I had worked several days over the Christmas period so I wanted to enjoy a few days off.

I was lucky enough to bag a Fallow Doe Calf,
    187912.jpg

and also to get a nice neck shot on a Sika Hind Calf.
    187915.jpg

I also got to travel through some of the most picturesque parts of the country.
I have to thank a couple of people for this trip.
Paulo and 4Gun, but especially Mammy Paulo6.5 and Wife Paulo6.5 for supplying Food and B&B facilities.

I appreciate that it is hard to see a deer and say, here Tack, your shot; Take it.
Paulo6.5 could have taken both Deer before me as he was the lead stalker.
I as a non native to Munster was unfamiliar with the Munster Geography so took a "Tourist approach" and followed the lead.

It was a great few days, with great adventures in Munster.

It really has me longing to go back for a Red Hind before the end of the season.

Words could not justify the thanks I would like to offer to my old friends and new, in Munster.
In the words of Arnie, I'll be back :D

Yes, although she needed a wash after backpack carrying the Sika Calf ~1/2 mile out of the field.

I have a few more pics, Boards.ie will only let me upload 5 pics at a time.

I might upload a few more later.

    EDIT
    ADDED PICS

Paulo's Mrs fried the steaks, I gave a front leg to her friend and she made the Hungarian stew and pasta type dish. Very tasty.

This reminds me of RTE going off air as a Child :D

Myself and 4gun found this while out stalking in South Kerry.
Poor animal must have died in agony.
Nothing as cruel as Nature herself!!

You would swear you were in Donegal with that scenery :p

Great pics Tack, looks like a great few days out. The fact you got yourself 2 deer is all the better.

And it looked great on the plate too.

We saw Reds (Reeks) there in Sept.
I know Stags are off the menu; but I'd love to shoot a Red calf or hind before the end of the season.

Love to get a stalk recorded too.
I was watching David Dunne videos and it gave me a few ideas :D

Theres a big like the one you posted stuck in a fence on one of our permissions, wasn't there one morning, came back 3 mornings later and all thats there is the leg. Caught the same way wrapped around the top two strands of wire. awful way for a animal to die

That's the Fallow I shot up near Kilsheelan.
    And it tasted lovely.

The front leg was cooked by lady for her family Sunday dinner, and She gave Paulo's Mrs some of it for me as a thankyou. She is a good cook.

Paulo's Mrs fried the fillets to my liking with Juniper berries and her own family recipe of seasoning and tasted beautiful.

    Well it was great.
To shoot 3 Mountain ranges and one separate mountain all on Paulo's and 4Guns permissions was some experience.

Even the damp weather did not deter our spirit.
Good to see so much deer in the country.
Saw 3 fine Sika Stags in the one field in kerry.
    Roll on Next September.

saw 7 Deer today down home, had I not the fridge full and work tomorrow I would have planted another deer.
    Roll on next weekend :D

I am only capable of taking rabbits and pigeons at the moment, not the same thrill as stalking and shooting a deer I would say!

I love Deer stalking. From tracking animals, to getting a clean kill, to butchering and eating.
    Best Sport in the world.
