    http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/classic/awards/01/56/60/53/awards_men_player_countries.pdf

Neymar got some voted, inexplicably a few folk have Rooney in top 3!!!

Messi doesn't rate Ronaldo in his top 3!

Casillas has two other Barca players ahead of Messi!

Aaaaaaaaaron Hughes of the north didn't realise he could pick three players!

Pique picked Thomas Muller as his third best player.

The Burundi captain lives in a parallel universe.

...even Jimmy Magee got a vote on behalf of he Irish media!!!

Not really, Xavi and Iniesta are clearly superior, no arguments to be made there. If you put Ronaldo in the middle you would be ****ed.

The lads that don't have Messi, Ronaldo or Xavi in their top 3 were surely taking the piss?

Captain Republic of Ireland Robbie Keane
    Iniesta Andrés
    Messi Lionel
    Sneijder Wesley

Coach Republic of Ireland Giovanni Trapattoni
    Xavi
    Rooney Wayne
    Iniesta Andrés

Media Republic of Ireland Paul Kelly / Jimmy Magee
    Messi Lionel
    Xavi
    Cristiano Ronaldo

Mark Van Bommel picked Sneijder as his number 1 :pac:

Casillas picked Ronaldo as his number 1 and Ozil as his number 2 - definite case of club before country there!

Spanish coach del Bosque didn't even have a Spanish player in the top 3, didn't want to have to pick a favourite?

i thought alot the people voting would have more integrity & vote for who they actually thought were the 3 best players

Burundi must be a country of trolls.

Their captain voted for Neymar, Abidal, Benzema. The coach voted for Benzema, Ozil, Eto'o.

    He voted Ronaldo, Nani, Neymar.

    The Neymar actually seems tactical.

Was Gomes voting as captain a tactical move in itself?

Some hilarious decisions. You are a fool not to have Messi as no.1 never mind the top 3. Maybe Trapatoni is trying to show if he had Messi he wouldnt have him in his team. Is Mascherano not captain or Argentina?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Big Knox

    Trap voted Rooney 2nd.

There we go lads the proof we needed that trap has gone senile, get him out before the euro's quick. Big Jack back in he's only four years his senior.

Put em under pressure din din din din din din din din din din...

Trap doesn't rate Messi in the top three players. He rates Rooney as better than Messi. Joke of a manager.

Before people rush to Trap's defence, think how much you would ridicule anybody on this forum who thought Rooney was a better player than Messi.

Messi's all well and good, but would he track Arshavin's runs? Would he f*ck.

Yeah, i'm sure that's what Trap was thinking at the time. Maybe next year they should put that on the ballot.

"Remember, Messi might be good, but...... somwthing to do with it being cold and in Stoke?"

    Eamon?

Is it possible that some managers/ players dont particularly care for these awards? Aaron Hughes of N Ireland couldnt even be arsed naming a 2nd and 3rd choice player! Like, do they all get sent some formal request for votes or are they quickly asked for all this after a qualifier?

The sad thing about it all is that Trap probably would actually pick Rooney ahead of Messi, given the choice.:o

Great argument. If anyone voted for Casillas they would be clowns because if you put him up front he'd be rubbish.

good few trolls got to vote in that alright!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,894 ✭✭✭Nunu

Remember when we had Mick McCarthy at the helm and he voted for Olisadabe!:D

I think a lot of managers and media are so far up their own hole they have to try prove they know something the rest of us don't.

It's clear as day that Messi is 1, Ronaldo 2 and then there is a small clutch of players who could legitimately be 3 - the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Van Persie and Silva.

    Eamon?
To be fair you don't have to be from the Eamo school of contrarian punditry to say that anybody who rates Rooney ahead of Messi is an idiot.

I can't imagine any likely scenario where you are asked to name the best three players in the world and you leave out Messi, or rate Rooney ahead of him. He picked three players and he put them in order, he obviously gave it some thought.

The manager of our international team thinks that Rooney is a better player than Messi. His team and squad selections have been eccentric. Now we have a fairly good explanation as to why.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

It's not just as simple as saying such and such thinks Rooney is better than Messi.

For many people in votes like that, their thought process goes as follows: Messi is the guaranteed no.1 whether I vote for him or not. I think X player had a very good year and I want him to get recognition. Seeing as Messi will win regardless, I'll leave him out and give my no.1 and 2 to players I want recognised

Yeah I suppose that's a possible explanation. That would make more sense than Trap just forgetting about him.

I doubt it will happen, but I'd love a journo to ask him about it at the next press conference.

Messi dribbles around defences, uses fancy footwork, showmanship. All of that is way too exciting for defensive Trap :pac:

Rooney on the other hand doesnt do a whole lot of trickery. Scores alot of goals but not usually with any type of mad flair or finesse. He just has good positional sense. Traps type :)

Really? For a striker he spends alot of time deep in MF or back at full back. When the ball goes forward he is nowhere to be seen.

I think Iniesta was the best player in the world last year personally, and the year before. I'd go Iniesta, Messi and then Ronaldo, but so far this year, it's been Ronaldo, Messi, Iniesta for me. However, I'd wager when the CL knock out stages and the Euros come round, Iniesta will shoot to the top for me again.
