Tony Iommi diagnosed with lymphoma

An announcement on their facebook page....

"With the news that Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, his bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time. Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan--the “IRON MAN” of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.

This comes as Black Sabbath--Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)--are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the UK to continue to work with Tony. Further information will be released as it becomes available."

Hopefully they've caught it early enough, best wishes to the man in black. :(

That's just awful news, i've met the guy twice and he was so fcukin nice, a few of my mates have met him quite a few times (interviews etc) and they all say he's one of the nicest guys in Rock.

Just finished his book 'Iron Man', and it was one of the best rock/metal books i've read

    Get well soon Tony

sad news indeed, hopefully he'll get through it.

Also read his book over christmas there and recommend it to everyone, not at all what i was expecting. An easy, insightful, and entertaining read.

Felt sorry for Bill Ward though :p

Well if its early stage then he has a good chance of successful management of it. Doesn't say which of many types it is though.

Very sad news, and I hope he feels better soon

I also hope that if part of his recovery is delaying from touring the band decide to reflect on that and perhaps give the Download Festival a miss. Better he is recovered and at full health then risk anything and, I'm sure, Black Sabbath will have plenty of time to tour once he's recovered.

On a more positive note, this kind of cancer has a high survival rate.

Reading it too, actually my first ever album was "Technical Ecstacy", circa 1985 I think. Very disappointed with it and was on the verge of writing Sabbath off till I heard their first albums.

    From his website:-

    Message From Tony

My fans, friends & colleagues -

I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much.

Well it's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.

It's really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio.

Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again.

    Bless you all,

    Tony
