Rental car insurance

Just wondering if anyone can suggest a solution to this fix. Two cousins are arriving from the US soon and they are 22 yrs of age so cannot rent a car in Ireland. I've no probs giving them the use of mine but only if they're insured.

I have heard of a service before that insures rental cars (ie if you feel the price the rental company is offering then you are perfectly fine to get insurance from another crowd) I can't for the life of me remember the website as it was a few years back- anyone any ideas? Or any suggestions of how to get around this problem ?

They should have no problem renting the car...
    Over 18s.

However they may need their own insurance policy, not sure what the age is regarding using rentals insurance.

Let them book with Dan Dooley. They rent to over 18s.

US Visitors can use their Mastercard CDW Vaiver on top of that as well if they have one.

You can buy insurance for 1 year for about 50 quid that covers the excess.. that way you don't have to pay some mad daily rate extra and can just take the basic insurance.

Dan Dooley website has a pricer form on the start page, the start age for a quote is 21, give it a go and see what they come up with.

I don't believe any of the rental companies will accept 'other' insurance to cover third party liability, you have to take at least their third party cover.

Most garages have a few cars (usually bangers older models) which they will rent out, they're called 'replacement cars' where you temporarily transfer your insurance to cover the use of the car so not really an option for visitors as the person driving the car has to have a policy (and cert.) in his/her name.

Correct, but you can insure against their excess.

You need to get them insured on your policy temporarily on your car. The insurance you're speaking of is only excess insurance to cover the excess on the rental company's policy.
