The European club has introduced a rewarding way to welcome in golf's new rules that no longer limit the value of prize an amateur can win for a hole in one. €1,000 wouldn't be a bad start to the year, would it!

You can get a round for €60 - which I'm sure a lot of people will think is expensive - but think of it this way: you'll still walk away with €940.

    Details/Photo here.

Whats stopping me and one of my mates rocking up and one of us claiming we'd a hole in 1 and the other verifying. Walking away €440 (1/2 of €1000 - €60) better off which will pay for a new custom fit driver?

Honesty, integrity and things like that. Basically things that golfers apparently hold in high regard...

I think it opens up a can of worms when there is a €1000 cash prize involved in a non competitive environment. For instance this is what used to happen in lahinch on the infamous dell hole (blind par 3)

    1. Caddy walks up to the mound and says he'll let the player know from there how they get on with their shot

    2. Player hits shot over the mound (everything slopes onto green)

    3. Caddy uses his best acting skills to jump up and down telling player he gets a hole in one.

    4. Caddy goes down to green before player can reach green and puts ball in the hole.

    5. Player is delighted with a hole in one and caddy gets a whopper of a tip.

I believe things like this happen due to a large financial benefit mixed with a non-competitive atmosphere where individuals will justify that they haven't cheated the game (just the people who offered a large amount of cash)

    Really, really bad idea.

Even if someone does get a hole in one there will always be those who suspect it was for the money.
~Unless they keep a camera on the hole in question.
