    People actually watched Terrible Nova?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

they shouldve given Fringe Terra Novas time slot, at least then a great show would have been given a fair chance and and got canceled,

terra nova was given a prime slot on monday nights, while fringe has been relegated to the friday night death slot:mad:,

Fringe id say unfortunately is done, i just hope fox does the right thing and axes that POS Terra nova aswell, another shocking production with speilberg showing hell add his name to anything for $$$$$

I am sooooo sick of good shows being cancelled.

Season one of Fringe was a little ropey at times but it's been pretty fantastic since.

Things aren't looking good for Community either - just started watching it and am hooked and then I hear it's on hiatus with no return date.

    I'm a Firefly fan too.

I think the writers can be blamed for Fringe losing viewers. I've been an ardent fan since the troubled early days of season 1, but the current season so far, seems to be floundering about and going nowhere in particular.

Current season is crap, it won't be surprising if it's canned.

    Is there hope however?

    http://www.tvline.com/2012/01/fringe-season-5-renewal-cancellation/

However bad Fringe is at the moment, I am seriously struggling to find anything else currently not cancelled that can scratch that sci-fi itch: Alphas? Haven? Waiting for yet another Battlestar Galactica cash in - Blood and Chrome? I know it's easier to cancel a struggling show and grab a good opening audience with a new series, but we're kind of scraping the barrel at the moment - I can't see Alcatraz pulling in the numbers for even a second season to be worthwhile.

Guess I'll have to go back to Aintittcool to trawl for anything that will even slightly elevate my heart rate...

good sci-fi is getting harder and harder to come by now, the neilson (network) audience dont seem to like it very much, and the only home it can survive is on channels like syfy where an average 2 million viewers will get you another season,

it would be great if channels like HBO, Starz and Showtime starting doing some sci-fi, sure didnt Stargate start on Showtime, why havent they tried another sci-fi show now that there getting a bit for a reputation for themselfs, could you imagine how good a sci-fi show on any of those channels would be, maybe with the success of Game Of Thrones maybe HBO might be inclined to expand there genres a bit further and maybe have a feel around for a show with a few space ships in it:),

noting currently airing is anywhere near the level of Fringe, in my personal opinion anyway, Falling Skies and Terra Nova were great prospects but neither filled the sizeable gap thats just begging to be filled,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,303 ✭✭✭Temptamperu

Falling Skies was ropey to begin with but got quite good by the end of the season. Terra Nova was terrible and I wanted the youngest kid to be eaten by a dinosaur the whole time. The season finale was good though.

I read somewhere that Fringe's DVR numbers are up 70% of the actual numbers so you never know. Although that means they can see what your recording

Yes, how they got away with showing the same episode every week is a mystery to me. I won't bother watching the return either.:(

Its blows the mind. How can they turn a half decent show into a pile of repetitive feces. You'd think that at least someone would run the script by a follower of the show to get their opinion

    Stay with it
Darabont is known for his methods of teasing out storylines and embelishing the central figures.
The constant menace and isolation is there and the group are splintering as the show progresses.
    His direction is flawless
I would criticise the number of episodes per season as being to few however the dollars are brought in by the bucketful by heavy and costly advertising slots.
It is rumoured that a spin off of another series is in the pipeline dealing with the more interesting characters of the show.

darabont was fired, the last epsiode before the break was his last involvment in the show, so i wouldnt be surprised if a few aspects change on its return,

Was very disappointed with the 2nd season so far. I'll wait until I read posts about the next couple of eps before deciding to watch anymore.

    Ahem.

Apparently negotiations for a fifth season are underway (read that a few days ago). Fingers crossed.

Hopefully with the cancellation of House there might be some extra money sloshing about which can go to Fringe :D

The saving on Hugh Laurie's salary alone could probably fund an entire fifth season :p

Yeah, but still. House is a good show. Hopefully it's a dramatic ending. lol

There's other shows out there that are SH!TE and are still kept on the air. Fringe is among the best shows on TV at the moment!

Exactly i don't get the hate for the start of the current season of fringe by certain people.

Ya fair enough it was a bit slow but it was still good watching.

I cant say i have ever been bored watching fringe since season one. Its been a show i always really really looked forward to watching and i still feel the same if not stronger at this point.

Would it be possible for Fox to drop it and some other network pick it up ?
Has that ever happened for another show ?
I'd rather that would happen than Fox let it wither away and die in the friday night slot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,208 ✭✭✭✭aidan_walsh

Its possible, but if its anything like Firefly Fox won't be too willing to give up the rights to it. The only reason Serenity got made is because Fox only owned the TV rights.

Despite those apocalyptic Nielsens, Fringe very much remains in the hunt for another season. One scenario allegedly being bandied about has it returning for a final 15-episode run. If that happens I will be an extremely happy person.

Jeff Pinkner: “There are conversations with both the studio and the network [about possibly going to a season 5]. It is certainly our hope that we have a season 5 and beyond and creatively we know what season 5 would be.”

J.H. Wyman: “Definitely we feel very confident that we know where we would go, should we be lucky enough,”

EW are of the same opinion of myself, a shorter season 5 (15-16 eps) to finnish the show out properly, and bring it over the 100 episode mark,

‘Fringe’ hopes for a future, but is ready for an end'
    DAVID HINCKLEY
    Thursday, February 23, 2012

The producers of Fox’s cult favorite “Fringe,” which is ratings-challenged in two universes, say they’re still hoping the show will score a fourth season. If it doesn’t, though, executive producer J.H. Wyman said Thursday, the show will end in a way that leaves fans “sad but satiated.” “We want to take care of the fans. We want them to see where it would have gone, but we also know the show has been a commitment and we want everyone to be satisfied with it.” “We don’t want anyone to go away thinking they wasted their time,” said fellow executive producer Jeff Pinkner. The viewership for “Fringe” has declined in its Friday night slot this year, and while Wyman said he thinks many fans are time-shifting to watch it on other nights, he and Pinkner acknowledged the show’s fate is up in the air. “We get this every year,” said Wyman. “And you have no control over it. So we can only do what we do, which is make the show we love and hope for the best.” Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said last month that while Fox considers “Fringe” an asset on Friday nights, the show’s relatively high budget is an issue. “For ‘Fringe’ to come back, we’d have to structure the cost in a way that makes sense,” said Reilly. “Fringe” has a new episode Friday night, then a three-week break, followed by eight more episodes this season. The finale will work whether it ends the season or the series, said Pinkner. “We haven’t written it yet,” he said. “But we know what it is. We’ve known since the beginning of the season.” If it turns out to end the show, he said, “I’d feel sad because I know how much more story we have left to tell. “But you know what, we’d still feel it’s a success. It’s a sci-fi show on network television and the fact it’s continued for several years is amazing in itself.” TV’s reluctance to embrace sci-fi is ironic, Wyman said: “In the movies, everyone goes to sci-fi. On TV, no one will touch it with a barge pole.” Even “Lost,” he suggested, snuck in the back door, posing as a drama and getting viewers hooked before they realized it was really sci-fi. But after “Lost” and “Fringe,” he said, “perhaps people will realize the consistency of quality for sci-fi; it’s not just for geeks. Maybe it will open their minds a little.” Unfortunately, he mused, that may not happen until the shows themselves are gone. Meanwhile, Pinkner said Friday night’s “Fringe” episode will be “a game changer” in which “the characters learn - - -...”

most shows would be looking at certain cancellation, but the amount of money Warner Bros. stands to make from off-network syndication deals is the driving force behind the series’ future. The only real question that still needs to be answered is will we see an announcement before the network’s upfront presentation in May?
Still no news, but ''insiders'' expect a renewal:

Showrunner J.H. Wyman posted another update on the future of the FOX sci-fi serial:

We feel SO positive about a pick up because our fans make people listen. They make people take notice. Have loud voices and are heard. xo

While the coveted fifth season is not yet official, Wyman noted:

We will get news this week. We feel really positive.
