    hi all
i am into the market looking for a car around 2007 year.
i have a small budget of 5k and may stretch to 6k if its really tempting car.
i have seen few 07 and 08 vectra at my budget level.
    are these any good cars?

i am comparing them with primera which are available with the same price range.
there are few mazda3 which are bit pricey compared to above.

can any one guide me as which car is better?
    i am into petrol only.

should i go one year lower i.e 2006 volvo or mondeo for better reliability?
    (but they have high mileage)

    I'd say Toyota Avensis..........Bullet proof...;)

I'd beg to differ. That ship has sailed.

I have a 1.8 Primera and would advise you stay well away from them poor build quality gutless engine and poor feel are just the start of it.

Mazda 3 is smaller than the Vectra and Primera. The Mazda 6 is in the same segment as the Vectra and Primera.

    These are worth looking at:

I'd also look at the Ford Mondeo:

Both the Mazda 6 and Ford Mondeo are light years ahead of the Vectra and Primera in every way that would matter.

thanks for the suggestions and the links.
    mazda6 looks nice.
mondeo - is the older model same as the newer model in terms of reliability/comfort?

The Mazda would be ahead of the Ford for reliability, but the Mondeo new model is reliable enough.

    shortlisted few of them

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2622985
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2706552
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2757176

what would be the best one among the above.
i believe all of the above are of same quality and it all depends on how it has been used by the owner

Vectra has a boring rep, but mine was reliable and a decent motorway cruiser to put miles up on. I averaged 700 km's from a 50 litre tank with the 1.6 engine. They come in 3 standards life, club and elite, but the basic spec of the life isn't too bad with A/C and cruise control. A decent one can be picked up for good money.

i am viewing a car today at the local LIDL. are the below checks enough to check the car?
    check the nct disc, tax
    check the service history
if interested, check cartell website for car history.

how do we verify the engine belongs to the same car or it was changed due to damage or any other reason?
how do we check if its not a stolen car?
how do we check if its imported car?

There's a thread at the top of this forum that says how to buy a car.

To check engine, there is a number on the tax book that you can compare to the engine.

To check if it's stolen, go to carcheck.ie or ring the guards (though I've never done the latter).

To check if it's imported, it will also say it on the tax book. Look for the section that says "Year of import", it will have the date or it will just be blank or say N/A.

Again, there is a whole thread about buying a car at the top of the forum. :)

had a look at a car and later checked the motorcheck for more details.
    i found couple of discrepancies

motorcheck report says tax is out since dec 2010
but i have seen the tax disc with vehicle Reg till jan 2012

    motorcheck says 3 owners
    16/09/2011
    18/02/2011
    19/01/2008

the car reg document said - the car was registered to new owner in dec 2011.

motorcheck says the last odometer reading recorded was in dec 2008 with 30k kms.
the current reading is 55k kms (the car is jan 2008 registered)
first year the car was drove for 30k and the next 3 years only 25k. that may be possible.

what do you think? could this be dodgy?

can motorcheck give incorrect details regarding date of owner change?
the logbook says changed on 9th dec 2011 but motorcheck says 16/9/11

I wonder why you're meeting in a car park - you should be going to the owner's house?
