TP LINK Problem with Meteor dongle.

    Hi.
Looking for help in setting up a tp link TL-MR3420 3g router with a meteor E353 bill pay dongle. First of all I tested a pre pay e173 dongle with this router for 2 months with a 20 euro top up and it connected to the router and worked fine. So I decided to sign up to bill pay a few days ago and got a e353 dongle and new sim card. When i use the dongle on its own in a laptop it works fine after I input the puk and pin codes on the laptop but i can't get it to work with the router. Is there a difference in the bill pay sim card and the pay as you go sim? Is the puk and pin codes the problem as I had never had to keep inputting these codes in the top up dongle. If I use the top up sim card in the new dongle it works fine so the e353 dongle is ok.

Any help would be great as I was onto meteor support and got no help just advised to go back to pre pay.

    Thanks.

Have you checked the system error log on the router via the web GUI ?
It's on the bottom led hand side IIRC

You should never have to use the PUK, unless you've locked out the SIM card. There is no difference between SIMs, so it would appear that something is wrong with the new SIM.

Disable the PIN on the new SIM. This may actually be a requirement when using the modem in a router anyway.

Thanks for the reply lads. I got it sorted by unlocking the sim using my mobile phone. The bill pay sim was pin protected and the pre pay was not so everything is working now. Thanks again .

    Hi Kersh,

just came across your post. What APN are you using for Meteor please and do you need any Pswd / Userid? I am trying to get a Dovado UMR working on Meteor (router works fine on O2 and Meteor USB in laptop works fine also) but once I switch Meteor to the router the download speed drops to almost nothing - I do get some connectivity. Currently awaiting delivery of a TL-MR3420 so glad to hear it works.

    (Using broadband.mymeteor.ie - no userid/pswd)

    Thanks :)

    Hi.
I am using the same apn. broadband.mymeteor.ie user name and password optional. On mine the user name is my and password meteor but this is optional. It is working fine for me using the tp link.

Thanks. TP-Link router arrived and works fin with just the APN. Never figured our why these settings would not work on the Dovado UMR.

    Hi
I just wanted to know how you found using the TP-Link MR3420 as im thinking if getting one to share my mobile broadband.
    Is the connection constantly connected
Do you have to sometimes have to reboot?? or does the router try to reconnect/redial?

    regards
    Larry

Very rarely requires a reboot (once every few weeks) - reconnects very well if/when network drops
