Recent Mavic Freehub Worn.

The freehub on a 3 month old Kysrium Equipe(base level Ksyrium) is worn. Wheel came with the bike from Germany. First noticed the wheel play the other day. Checked the bearings and they were fine. Then looked at the cassette and found the tell-tale wobble.

Is it just a simple case of bad luck with wear and tear on this particular wheel? Would I get any joy out of Mavic or Canyon if I contacted them? I've read plenty about the bushings wearing down quite quickly but its hard to believe a relatively new wheel would show signs so soon!

Any thoughts or similar experiences would be appreciated.:)

Edit: just found Mavic's Warranty limitations. 'Does not cover normal wear and tear, bearings, pawls, seals etc'. But the freehub gone after 3 months?

Are you sure the hub body is loose and not just that the cassette is loose on the hub body. You must use a spacer with a 10 sp cassette on a 9 sp hub body if this is your set up.

Was there not an issue with a seal/ rubber ring prematurely wearing on some on the Mavic wheels?

Yes, they are ****. You can buy after market brush bearings to go in.

Also the actual freehub body wears down too. thats a b1tch....

Would not buy mavic wheels again

Yeah, correct spacers etc. Bearings fine. As tunney and others have said on other forums there does seem to be an issue with Mavic freehubs, brush bearings etc.

I can't be arsed sending the wheel back to Canyon in order for them to send it on to Mavic for them to decide that its just normal wear and tear and the whole saga to go on forever!

Shame as the Ksyrium Elites I have are fine. Think I'll go back to Fulcrum 5/7's for training wheels in future.

It might be worth having it rebuilt with a different hub?

No need to retire them just yet - as Tunney said, you can get after market replacement bushings (stock & oversize (to account for wear on the hub body if present)) or even upgrade bearing kits (to permanently do away with the nylon bushing) that should the wheel to as new.

    - search for the HubDoctor on eBay, you'll find what you need there.
Bought from there several times for bearings etc and have no problem recommending.

Oh certaintly won't be retiring them. Just pissed I have to spend more money when I said 'thats it I'm done spending money on the bike for now'. It never happens though, does it?

Nope! Was committed to leaving the bank account unscathed for January at least and then this happened...

Waiting for buyers remorse to kick in but doesn't seem to be happening...

Had a look at the cassette on the other Ksyrium(Elite) and guess what - it shows signs of some play as well! Not as much as the other wheel but.....

I saw those replacement bushing kits on eBay alright. Might have to get two.
