I have oil central heating which is zoned.
    upstairs, downstairs and hot water.
I have noticed the burner is starting up every now and then even when the heating is not switched on at the control panel.
Two of the radiators downstairs are luke warm while the others are cold.
I flushed the system out but it is still the same...
Could it be one of the valves for the zones is faulty?
    Thanks

That'd be the first place I'd look.
Sounds like one of the valves ain't closing fully.

hi, i had the very same problem, it drove me nuts, someone said its the outside temperature gauge faulty, it turns on the burner if its really cold to stop it frexzzing, but when its 18 degress,,??? it cant be that. anyways to make a long storty short, i got an electtician after having 2 plumbers who couldnt fix it, the electrician found that the pcb board was sending a constant 220 volts to the burner even when everything is turned off, it was a faulty pcb board fuse, he had to put in three relays(what ever that is??) to solve it. hope this helps

    Cheers thanks for the reply.....
I fixed it myself after a lot of checking of all three valves. The switch in the downstairs heating valve was stuck.
When the motor turns in the valve it pushes a switch which sends the 220v to the burner. When you turn off your heating the motor returns to it's original position which in turn releases the switch. Turning off the burner.
My switch had stayed stuck I manged to fix it but bought a spare just incase it happens again... total cost about 60 cent...
Saved me at least €60 for the valve alone:)
