Samsung GT-I8150 firmware update

    Hi all....

noob to Samsung here, but some experience with my former phone ZTE Blade.

Got a new Samsung W GT-I8150 (aka Wonder)

Just a question regarding a failed Kies update....which I gather is not unusual!!

I was offered the latest GB 2.3.6 by Kies, phone was GB 2.3.5 and downloaded the full package in Kies....

But when it was supposed to install, apparently by rebooting to Download Mode, it just didn't happen, no matter how often or in what way I tried.

    So, I dispensed with Kies......

and then found ODIN, my saviour, which is not easy, but does the job more than adequately.

I also found the latest European F/W on XDA, which I flashed with Kies, eventually, after semi-bricking, but got it right eventually.

    see here:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20687063&postcount=233

Now, everything is working, WiFi, Mobile Data, Market, all Apps, the works, no probs.

But, just to check, I connected with Kies again, to check latest available F/W, only for Kies to tell me:

Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies.

This is obviously due to a mismatch between the Firmware I flashed with ODIN, and what Kies knows from my Product Code:

    My current firmware is:

    I8150XXKK1/I8150OXXKJ6/I8150XXKK1/I8150XXKK1

    My Product Code is: GT-I8150FKAMET

The failed original Kies Update to 2.3.6 is:

    I8150XXKK1/I8150METKK1/I8150XXKK1/I8150XXKK1

As you can see, the difference is in the CSC????

    (can anyone explain these numbers......PDA/CSC/PHONE...etc.)

So, my phone is from Meteor, although it is now unlocked and working on Tesco.....

    It is rooted, using SuperOneClick.

I have the file which Kies failed to apply:

    I8150XXKK1_I8150METKK1_I8150XXKK1_HOME.tar.md5

    (retrieved from a temp folder)

Could I use ODIN to flash this without hassle.......I know i could go back to my current working Firmware in the event of failure.

I am asking Samsung experts out there for some advice ;)

    TIA

Own a galaxy S and once I discovered Odin I never went near Kies again.

Found the following after a quick google.
CSC settings define prvider/country for a specific firmware. For example XXJL2 requires CSC with tag "DBT" for Kies to properly recognize it and allow upating. Otherwise you'll just get a "This device version cannot be updated" error in Kies.

    Thanx Ste-

I think there probably is a far greater selection of FW/ROMs for Galaxy S, as it is out for some time......and probably lot's of Custom ROMs which are in every way superior to the Samsung, bloated/laggy staff......

you probably looking forward to ICS now???

    Not officially of course ;)

Hopefully some Devs will cook up ROMs for the GT-I8150, Galaxy Wonder:

So, what network or country do you think my current FW is for:

    Flashed with ODIN:

CSC: I8150OXXKJ6 Where does OXX refer to??

And the FW d'loaded by Kies, but never flashed:

CSC: I8150METKK1...... MET = Meteor Ireland in SamsungSpeak

Is it possible to use ODIN to flash the failed Kies download, I retrieved the file from a temp folder, where it is stored by Kies, until it is flashed.

As I said, this is the .tar file, which can usually be flashed by ODIN using the One Package option in ODIN.

    File is named: I8150XXKK1_I8150METKK1_I8150XXKK1_HOME.tar.md5

EDIT....Just found this, regarding the OXX CSC values, it is a multi-CSC, Unbranded, suitable for many regions

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765032
Here is the description of CSC´s (included country variants):

    DBT (Germany specific)
OXA *Multi CSC* (for France, Germany, Italy, Poland, UK, UK & Ireland)
OXE *Multi CSC* (for Baltic, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine)
OXX *Multi CSC* (for Austria, Baltic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland)

Think I will keep what I have for the moment, don't think I will be using Kies ever again...

If the package you found in your temp folder matches the contents of the other taar file you should be able to flash it with odin.
Worst case scenario it doesn't and you have to flash the one from XDA to get your phone to boot again.

    Thanks Ste-

Things are moving along nicely on the Samsung GT-I8150

There is now an Official Forum on XDA, with Sub forums for General/Accessories/Development/Themes & Apps :D:D

There are a couple of Custom ROM's being developed, Custom Recovery (RZr) has been developed, with talk of ClockWork Mod also coming along.

Also, Rooting the device (usual warning about your warranty!!!) has been made easy with SuperOneClick or Doomlord.

So, hopefully, Kies and even ODIN will soon be a thing of the past soon.
