Wordpress is the place to be. Wordpress.org if you can navigate hosting and all that. Wordpress.com if you want a simple blog.

Get a twitter account and link between the two so blog posts appear on twitter and vice versa. Also link your twitter account to facebook, if you use it. Follow people on twitter who are blogging about similar or the same stuff as you. Twittiquette implies that they will follow you too, although this doesn't always happen, especially if the person is well known and/or has a lot of followers. You can also integrate your blog address into your e-mail as a signature so people see it. In addition, post comments on other people's blogs and they can then click on your avatar, thus bringing them to your blog. Just a few ideas! Best of luck!

sounds like you'd be better off using live journal or insane journal if wordpress is too complicated.

    I've got a wordpress. It's my signature.

It does seem complicated but if you mess around with it it will get easier. The dashboard is acutally quite handy now and it has quick press options for nice little snappy blog posts! :)

i have just created one. trying to get the thing to link to my twitters now but it is being a bit of an arse. i shall be posting my first blog laters. i will leave it basic for now, just so it is up and out there, and will edit as i go along.

anyone got any suggestions for me, general things to do with blogging etc

Just started my own blog and twitter feed as I'm hoping to be a Make Up Artist, think Wordpress is good, if you go to widgets you can drag the twitter option up and link it to your blog, haven't done much with mine yet but will get there!

Wordpress may seem complicated at first, but it's actually pretty nifty. You have a lot of control of your blog. You can get some really nice free customisation depending on what theme you use. Make sure your Gravatar (the picture and description that acts as your "id" for the site) is up to scratch to, it's people's first impression of you if they click on a comment you've made.

Hmm, I don't know why that would be. Check your "publicise" settings to make sure it automatically posts to your Facebook. Mine is only linked to Twitter and I've never had any trouble with that.

If you're totally new to blogging, I'd really recommend Tumblr. It has a newsfeed that's not dissimilar to Facebook or Twitter that makes it really easy to read all your followers posts in one place.

Blogging is great fun. Best of luck! :D

has any ladies here been watching "the big C" lately?? where the husband has started up a blog on his experience.
i love that "kitchen hero" programme too and this weeks episode went on about food blogging.

id love to start up a blog but ive no idea if id like it and if i did i have no idea what to do it on.

i'm an addict of facebook and pretty much put something up every day and i'm always on it about 6/7 times a day if not more.

so maybe blogging is something i should take up. have any of ye ladies done one before and if so how did ye find it??

I suppose it depends if you like to write about stuff.

I like to bounce around different threads and forums here where I can jump in and give my opinion on stuff in the here and now or just read what other people wrote. On the other hand I have no inclination to write a blog on a particular area of focus or on random stuff. I know people can leave comments on blogs etc, but I prefer the more interactive nature of forums, and I guess I'm not that passionate about food or fashion etc to want to post about it regularly. I never kept a diary either, wasn't ever something that interested me.

Yeah, blogging can be pretty fun! I have one about learning piano because it's something I'm very serious about right now. I update it every 2-3 days, generally. I like to follow other people's blogs about things I'm interested in: music reviews, book reviews, photography, and general life-blogs by close friends :D. I wouldn't go into it expecting any kind of income though - that sort of thing is exceptionally rare.

If you'd like to get started yourself, I'd recommend Wordpress or Tumblr, both of which make it very easy to follow other people's blogs and market your own. Stay clear of the likes of Blogger though; it's outdated and a pain in the arse to use in general.

    Love blogging!

I have two, one mainly for beauty and the other for random bits. I blog a lot more than I use Facebook.

Saying that I'm still active on forums daily where as I might not blog every day. Why don't you give it a try you can always delete it if it becomes uninteresting.

I tried but I got bored.

My sister has a fairly decent book review blog. http://bookfilledblog.blogspot.com/

She has had authors send her advance reader copies to review.

Blogging is a lot of fun. I use Wordpress and focus mostly on travel. There's a nice community on there.

I read that as pornography :o

I blog about beauty and quite like reading other peoples blogs too.

I like to be able to reviews, swatch products and I have a big interest in beauty related stuff.

Yeah it's amazing what you can pick up from other people's blogs, whether it be beauty tips, a good book you wouldn't have considered otherwise or just general pick-me-up stories. Blogs are great for this sort of thing!

No, you need to tag it. Very simple to do though - you just enter relevant words in the box that says Tags when you write your post. A typical post of mine would probably have tags like: music, piano, Beethoven, Op 13 C Minor, practising scales etc etc Depending on what the exact subject of the post was.

You could just use one blog for a bit of everything, or make 2 for the specific things you're interested in. There's no rules with blogging! :D

+1 for Wordpress, you can really make your blog your own with different templates and it's really easy to use once you get used to where everything is:)

I have a beauty blog and love it, I don't use Facebook at all but do have a twitter account for it which is a great way to get people aware of your blog and tweet about new posts and engage with people!

To be honest you can do as little or as much if you want!

I also use my blog on my cv so if you're proud of it make sure you do!

    Best of luck with it!

I like Tumblr, mostly because I post more photos and links than longer text blogs! Can customize the look really nicely too and has a nice dashboard for the other blogs you follow.
