    Hi,

Has anyone got any recommendations for nice, well located accommodation in Saalbach, Austria for a group. Planning on heading mid-March. Ideally the accommodation would be close to the main Gondola/chairlifts.
Also any other advice on resort appreciated. We have mix of skiers and snowboarders of varying ability.

    Thanks
    Lexa

We've always stayed in Hotel Panther. Can't really get any better location. You can ski right to the back of the hotel (and into the lift if you want) and then walk the 20m to ski room. Nice hotel, great pool, nice food and staff. If we were going back, I'd have no problems staying here again.

It’s by far my favourite resort. It just seems to have it all really. Great tree-lined runs, new lifts, gondolas, great après ski.

I posted some info on the resort here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=68689126

And I’ve dug this out of an old email I sent to a friend a few years ago:
“A defo for lunch on the mountain is Alte Schmiede, it's an amazing museum restaurant - fantastic wood fired pizzas! And those slopes over towards Leogang are lovely. You'll see it on the piste map, beside Gondola number 53. Other than that, Bauers Ski Alm at the bottom of the Turm lift is good for apres ski - esp Thursdays. Taverne in the middle of town is a good late night option, cheesey music. We ended up there most nights.”

Just wondering if anybody had any information on buying ski goggles and helmets in Saalbach. What are the prices/selection like in comparison to Ireland. Is it worth waiting until I go to Saalbach to buy goggles and helmet. Any information is appreciated

There's defo a better selection over there. I got a great pair of goggles in Intersport on sale last year for less than €40. I used them every day this year and they were fantastic. So personally, I'd defo wait!

Thanks for the info. Might wait until I get over there so, it costs nearly €200 for decent goggles and helmet in Dublin. Hopefully it will be a bit cheaper in Saalbach.

I would recommend buying your helmet in Ireland, much cheaper than in resort, they hike prices up big time there, I bought a good helmet in Matthews in cork for €50 and they also sell a good selection of Oakley goggles from about €40 upwards, you certainly won't get a reputable brand of goggles for this price in saalbach.

If you are buying googles you wont get a decent pair for less than €60 and always buy Oakley, you will save a fortune in the long run.

Saalbach is great a 2nd vote for the Panther, great location hotel and food.

Would buy the Helmet and Googles together make sure there is a tight fit with the helmet and the googs to prevent wind gapping and burn.

Best skiing in Saalbach is down the Hinterglem end of things

    Thanks Fattes.
Any ideas what snow conditions are like over there? Hopefully there will still be some snow left in 2 weeks!
