Would anyone have, or know of anyone with, any experience in carrying out research on AGS?

Im hoping to carry out a survey on members of AGS for a masters thesis, but I know getting approval from the garda research unit wont be easy.

Any advice on how to best approach the request or to improve my chances of approval would be greatly appriciated.

Cant the Garda College and as for the Research unit and ask them straight out. If that fails a letter to the Chief in HRM explaining the research might be an idea.

Research is always on going within AGS, it depends on how relevant the research is for AGS to take it on board and allow members to be surveyed.

Thanks for the quick reply Hooch. Im wondering would the research unit want a full research proposal before they'd consider it... I'll give them a ring during the week, I just wanted to get a sense of what the criteria might be first. For example, a research question which would be likely to result in negitive publicity would be unlikely to get the go ahead from management for understandable reasons i'd imagine.

Also, does anyone know what kind of time scale i'm looking at to here back whether approval is granted/rejected?

Yep they will to the same standard as your third level institute would.

Ya if it will be terribly negative i'd imagine that they wouldn't give someone outside the job the go ahead. Anything like that would be internal only.

You could be looking at anything from two weeks to two months to complete your request.

If you go into it thinking it will generate negative publicity you should probably rethink your proposal to something more neutral but that will still allow you to obtain the answers you want.

Nope, I dont expect mine would paint a negitive image at all, just citeing that as one consideration.

Think Ill do up two proposals, one AGS one and a back up in case I dont get approval or it takes too long to come through.
