You can't tune it in on a Sky box. I contacted C4 some months ago to query why we in ROI didn't have C4HD on our epg. This is the reply I got (which doesn't make sense):

'Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries.
Unfortunately, if there is either no channel space designated for it you would need to ask Sky why this is the case.
We are sorry we cannot help.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us here at Channel 4 and for your interest in our programming.

    Regards,

    Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries'

I followed it up with Sky but got nowhere with them .. I never got an exact reply to my questions

Channel 4 has a number of regions and we get the Northern Ireland one.

Channel 4 HD is just one central channel.

They want us watching the Northern Ireland version as it has advertising aimed at us and the HD version does not.:(

if a Northern Ireland Channel 4 HD broadcast does start at any stage we will propably get it.

Try tuning it in at 11127mhz V 21997.

That's not the reason. The version of Channel 4 on Sky Ireland is encrypted so certain programming can be blocked. There is no encrypted version of Channel 4 HD so programming cannot be blocked. This is why Channel 4 HD is not on the Sky Ireland EPG

When did Alf Stewart stop raping people?

Doesn't work on a Sky+ HD box. It won't lock a DVB-S2 transponder when manually tuning.

Oh, Heck. Does the HD box tune anything from non Sky transponders?

Get a Sky freesat card and switch cards when you want to watch the racing, it's a pain but done it for years myself!

Oh, the woes of subscribing to Sky!
Get a Freesat HD receiver, or a generic DVB-S2 HD receiver, no subs or grief with new fta HD stuff!

Yes but only if the symbol rate is 22000 or 27500 and the transponder is DVB-S rather than DVB-S2. I once used one for German channels on 19.2°E as a test - it worked but was rather shabby.

No subs, but also very little content I'm interested in. Horses for courses. :)

For five hd channels .. ah, no thanks

Fair enough, Freesat has all the HD and general content I have time for, (including Channel 4 HD). I only watch about four or five channels regularly. No subscription.
A few of them in HD.
I got shut of Sky while they were still analogue.
It was an overpriced scam then and I can't see that it improved any.
Thank the powers that be for FTA and Freesat!
Rupert is getting richer by the day.
As stated above, horses for courses, you pays your money, you takes your choice.

I watched most of my TV on my Freesat HD box over crimbo. Well worth the 70euro.

That makes no sense. Us northerners have (with a Sky HD receiver) access to Channel 4 HD yet if we watch it we don't get local adverts either.

I suspect it's down to commercial deals between Channel 4 & Sky, and that no agreement has yet been reached that Channel 4 feels it is favourable to them to broadcast the HD version of the channel on the EPG in the Republic.
