A friend of mine's old yahoo account which she deactivated just added me on MSN and it's a computer talking the usual stuff. What should happen here? How was the account phished recently if the account was deactivated and unused for months?

My understanding of most social network and email deactivations is the account remains dormant for a period of time. If the account is accessed in that time, its re-enabled with all data back.

Yeah I thought this too, but when she goes to sign it it asks if you want to reactivate it again. So it seems like it hasn't been. I don't think it's too much too worry about but its a bit strange.

does the msn account show up as validated? its possible to use any email address on msn but it will show as not validated until the owner of the email account clicks a link in their email to verify etc. this has been my experience in the past when setting up a non msn address to use msn (now live) messenger.
