    Head-to-head

    • This is the 30th meeting. Liverpool have won 19 of the previous 29, Oldham six, with four drawn.

    • Both clubs were in the Premier League when they last went toe-to-toe in 1993/94; Liverpool won 2-1 at Anfield and 3-0 at Boundary Park. The Latics won the top-flight clash immediately prior to those; 3-2 at home in May 1993.

    • Liverpool hold a 100% record against Oldham in the FA Cup; going through at the first time of asking in the second round in 1907, fourth round in January 1962 and fifth round in February 1977.

#LFC : Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Coates, Aurelio, Spearing, Maxi, Gerrard, Shelvey, Kuyt, Bellamy

Subs - Doni, Carroll, Henderson, Adam, Skrtel, Downing, Flanagan.

#Oldham: Cisak, Lee, Mvoto, Diamond, Taylor, Adeyemi, Wesolowski, Furman, Scapuzzi, Robbie Simpson, Kuqi.

    Well in.

Going for a 3-0 tonight. Shelvey to get off the mark with Gerrard and Kuyt. Kelly to assist for one of them

Cisak, M'Voto and Taylor are decent enough and I love Diamond. scapuzzi is on loan from City.

    Liverpool should win comfortably, however.

Would've liked to see Bellamy rested and Carroll starting in his place.

Why isnt Carroll starting? Perfect opportunity to try and get a few goals and boost his confidence.

Dalglish's team selection is baffling. If there ever was a game for Carroll to get a few goals and a bit of confidence, this is it. Then bringing in Bellamy when he left him out for Manchester City - he was coming off a great two goal display against Newcastle and suddenly gets chopped for Kuyt. But he's good enough for Oldham?

Also there's no need to risk Gerrard in a game where the opposition will be looking to make it as physical as possible.

Did not expect such a strong team from Liverpool! Even the subs bench is near to, if not first-choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,593 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Crinklewood

    Oldham bench:-

Subs: Bouzanis, Black, Morais, Smith, Tarkowski, Parker, Mancini.

Mancini's son on there, and one of the subs could lead to an FA ban. :-)

Bouzanis, isn't he an ex Pool keeper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

I think the decision not to play Carroll is a good bit of psychology from Dalglish.

He's telling him that he's a first team player and he doesn't need to prove himself against League 1 opposition. Good backing of his player if true.

We aare just giving the competetion the repect it deserves, and not treating it with contempt.

Win, and Saurez is back a premier league game earlier, for the Spurs game. We could also draw, but we dont want that.

Why because other teams play weakened teams?

This is almost the same team that played in the early rounds of the Carling Cup only player missing is Suarez

What a ball that nearly was from Bellerz to Maxi.

Whatever about Bellers playing, not playing Andy I have to agree is strange.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,594 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Will poor Doni ever get a game? With Man City in the CC, that'll be Reina surely, figured today was his only chance of a start..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,080 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

Bellamy's delivery is almost always spot on. Great crossed of the ball.

What is it with players taking shots on when there's a man waiting for a tap in?!

Happens in nearly every game that there are easy goals not taken by 1 or both sides.

If i was a manager I'd be tempted to put in a 1 weeks wage fine policy for not looking up and taking the easy-goal option.

I really don't think it strange Carroll isn't starting. It's kk's way of showing he is first team.

I understand h doesn't need a rest, but others need game time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,652 ✭✭✭I am pie

We don't seem to be able to play quick passes through the middle in the final 3rd, we're to focused on crosses from or shootig outside the D. Not enough guile where it counts.

Maybe since they only got the rights like an hour before kickoff did not have anyone prepared for the game

They don't though. Carroll definitely needs game time more than Bellamy does.

He doesn't need to make a statement by not selecting him in this game, it's not like they don't actually talk to each other. He could simply say "You're first choice. You're playing tonight, AND against City." Done.

Slow start for Liverpool. Oldham will run themselves dry if they keep this pace up.
