Hope Jarvis brings his kicking boots, he hadn't them on against Leinster

Fair play to TG4 for showing this game. Its a massive game in our season, the Aironi team is not a bad team and they look to have a string enough bench as well. Having said that id be confident of a victory tomorrow. Although we've lost 12 on the trot the performances have not been that bad. We've been completive in most games and should of won about 5 of those games (at least). If Connacht show up tomorrow we'll get the win.

I think a bigger fair play goes to RAI in Italy for taking up the rights to the Rabo mid season so that we get to now watch the games here

    Is Griffin injured/rested?

Also, Jarvis selected ahead of NOC! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,166 ✭✭✭✭Zzippy

Griffin has a hamstring injury again. Great to see Jarvis get the nod, while his placekicking seems about as bad as NOC's at least he can get a backline moving and doesn't run sideways with the ball before he passes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,071 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

Great to see Swifty back, nice looking backrow with Kearney, Muldoon and George (Although Johnny be big miss).
That is pretty much the strongest backline he have at the moment (bar Griffin for Tonetti) so I'm hopful of a result (although Aironi did beat Treviso couple weeks ago so they be no pushovers at all at all- im sure the Italians will have targeted this game as a "must win")
Fantastic to see Jarvis still in team aswell. when it comes to place kicking- why not give Duffy a go? I remember him taking a few pens for Ireland on a tour to Argentina couple years back unless my mind is mistaken me. Surely he can't be much worse than what we have?

I wonder has Tonetti been place kicking this week as Plan B? Apparently there's a gale flowing over there at the moment.

What Jarvis offers in terms of running the backs and picking his passes is light years ahead of NOC. Moreover, we already know that there isn't much development left in NOC; there's plenty more to come with Jarvis.

Great to see jarvis get the nod,now lets hope he grabs it with both hands!
He got thrown in at the last minute last week now knows upfront that he is starting at 10!
no harm having NOC on the bench make him a bit hungrier for the game!
IF jarvis had NOC's kick ratio and NOC had Jarvis' gameplay we would have two cracking 10's

anyways vainikolo is a unknown quantity even anytime i seen him he seems to be all over the place!
like a lad who doesnt train with the squad but shows up on game day and not sure what he is supposed to be doing!
    prove me wrong FETZ!!!

BTW did I say I am delighted Jarvis got the nod???

    GWAN CONNACHT!!!!

We will need someone to have brought their kicking boots.

Orquera's stats are fairly impressive, he's scored 12 of his last 13 place kicks

we better be on our best behaviour so.
    who is the ref btw?

I have barely ever seen him play being honest, what's the story with Jarvis? What age is he roughly and what sort of OH is he? I know he's Irish qualified, any chance he'll be an option in the coming years?

    What time exactly is kickoff?

The RTE, Connacht rugby & RaboDirect websites all say 16:35 whereas my friend reckons it's 15.35.

    Correct 15.35

Pro12 website says all kickoffs are local time, which makes that 16:35 their time, 15:35 our time. TG4 starting coverage at 15:15.

What do you think guys, will TG4 geoblock the game or can I watch it from Engerland?

I've tried to watch games on TG4 from England and they blocked it. The TG4 player mysteriously stopped working around game time.

He's 21 and, after a lengthy hoo-hah, will be Irish qualified despite playing u-20 for Wales.

I'd liken him to early Sexton in that he's taller and skinnier than you'd think, he likes to run the ball himself and his passing gets the backs moving lively. He's put in some big kicks from hand. Also like early Sexton, he's having a bit of a mare with his place kicking at the moment.

This is Connacht's most important away game of the season. Everyone know's the away games are the points swings that teams need. This is definitely the "target" away game, and I'm hoping we see another good performance from Jarvis in open play, giving that young backline plenty of space to operate in.

    Will be a tough game.

Referee: Andrew McMenemy, (SRU, 10th competition game)

That would be below our League average (13 games) in terms of Ref Experienceosity.

Marius Mitrea is in charge of the Leinster v Cardiff game. This is his fourth competitive game. http://www.rabodirectpro12.com/matchcentre/11988.php

Considering Leinster v Cardiff is first v sixth you can't say it's just the lower placed teams get inexperienced refs.

His very first game was a Connacht match. ;)
Robbo never said it was just the lower placed teams who get inexperienced refs, but on average the refs we get are much less experienced than the likes of Munster, he posted a league table before where Connacht averaged refs with 12 games where Munster averaged refs with 26 games (IIRC).

Just cos I'm a bit of a stato I worked out that the average amount of games the ref for Leinster games has is 20.2 compared to 14.1 for Connacht games. Also Leinster have had 4 games where the ref had less than 10 games whereas Connacht have had 6.

So on average Connacht get refs 70% as experienced as Leinster get or 30% less experienced depending on how you want to word it.

Considering where Leinster and Connacht are and the difference in our average attendances I don't think the difference in the refs experience is that big.

    Correctimundo.

As for the game, the ref is certainly not responsible for Connacht ignoring gaps in midfield or their insistance on hit-ups instead of passing at gain line. If you're going to go bish-bosh, you'll require an offload at a minimum.

    Poor so far.

What ya reckon, 9-7 at half time and a second half to make up for it? :P

    Edit: Nope, didn't think so!

One way to combat negative opponents is to stop kicking the bloody ball back to them!

Going to watch cricket highlights instead.

We are absoloutley appalling, knock ons all sides

However, that red Scottish **** is doing is no favours.

Yellow card for Rogers when the ball pops out of the ruck straight away to the scrum half? You're having a ****ing laugh. Some of the penalties have been pretty harsh as well.

O halloran is having a nightmare. We just need to be patient in attack and wait for the mistake to come instead of rushing everything. Very poor though, thought we'd turned a corner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,166 ✭✭✭✭Zzippy

Need to calm down big time in the second half, trying to do too much with the ball and making silly errors, trying over-ambitious passes resulting in knock ons and turnovers. Just get the basics right and this Aironi team are there for the taking. Ref hasn't been great, that yellow card was very harsh but we have to play him...
George having a good game so far, some good carries. Someone just needs to take O'Halloran aside and tell him to relax and concentrate on the basics, he's a far better player than that...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

What's going on in the game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭cityman 18

This is very poor stuff so far, TOH is having a nightmare, big fan of his but its not working for him today. Connacht need to take there time and the chances will appear. We can't be as bad in the second half. Can we?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,684 ✭✭✭JustinDee

What's going on in the game?
Brainfart after brainfart, backed up by some pretty uninspirational decision-making and ill-discipline.
    Also some woeful camerawork.

    Poor from Duffy in defence.

Looks like more of the same from this half, I'm afraid... packed quite a lot of mistakes into the last 3 minutes alone, and now out on the full from the restart... not good, not good at all.

Rodgers made no effort to roll away, he knew exactly what he was doing, and the ball didn't come straight out. The scrum half had to go digging for it. Considering the position in the field, and that if Aironi had gotten quick ball they could have done real damage.

It was a pretty valid yellow if you ask me.

Connacht are wrecked. Not surprising when they're playing basically the same team every week.
