    Hi all,
I am interested in running a duathlon event in aid of a local charity in my home town. I have never done anything like this before and I am more than a little nervous and confused. If anyone could offer me any advice on how to get things rolling I'd be very grateful. Thanks so much.

What experience do you have of hosting events like this? If none, you should offer to volunteer at similar duathlons, and get an idea of organization, what goes on behind the scenes, insurance, road closure's, what goes wrong on the day, etc. An inexperienced person hosting a poor event will have negative connotations for a charity, so you'd be advised to get a lot of hands-on knowledge.

I agree with dono. Even though your event will be for charity, participants will still expect it to be well run. This will be hard if the organisers have no previous experience. Your best option for a Duathlon event is to contact your local triathlon (or cycling) club and ask them would they be interested in either organising it or helping out with the organising. They get to attach their name to a race, and the buzz that comes with organising a successful event, & you get to raise funds for charity.

Sounds like reasonable advise. I'll look into it. Is there any definite no no's I should avoid doing?
