    Hi,
I've just got a quote from Audi in Sandyford for a timing belt/water pump replacement of €850 plus a major service for another €340 on top of that!! The car has 73,000 miles and is a 2008 model imported from the UK with long life servicing up to now.
Anyone know a good mechanic in Wicklow or south Dublin and what would a reasonable figure be for this type of work done through an SIMI garage.
    Thanks.

I have a 2001 A6 1.8T and I went through Gerard Lee Motors in Dun Laoghaire,(used to be called JetStar) got the timing belt waterpump changed, a full service, 2 new front brake disks and new brake pads all round for close to €1k mark. Know their stuff too as they used to be a VAG commercials garage.

Got the recommendation from someone on here a good while ago and have been back to them a few times since. All good and no complaints.

    Address and contact details here:

Tell that garage where to go with a quote of €850! Go to an indy garage and you would probably get it done for half of that.

Shop around. I dont know what setup is in your car but it should be cheaper than that. Main audi dealers have cut prices massively in most cases or are at least giving an 'offer price' if asked.

That is scandalous. An Indy mechanic should be much much cheaper and should do it for half that price

A good guide! And Audi cork are doing the same so I can't see why Audi Dublin N/S or S/S wouldn't

I was in the same situation with my A4 about 2 years ago - looked for quotes from various main dealers and indys around South Dublin, was quoted something similar from the main dealer.

Myself and the family have used lots (maybe 15) of indy mechanics around South Dublin and North Wicklow over the years and have never really come out thinking that was reasonably priced or that they did a really good job. I thoroughly recommend Alan Jordan Motors just off Camden St. in Dublin city centre - I was recommended him about 2 years ago and he has done about 6 jobs in 2 years on our 3 cars and has been superb every time. I always recommend him - 4 people from work have used him since and have all come back happy with the service and price. To be honest I was actually surprised how reasonably priced he is, I think that he just doesn't overcharge on labour. He's definitely worth a call for a quote

I found it very hard to find a good mechanic that you can trust and wont try talking sh1te to overcharge you. He's also very convenient if you work in the city centre - Alan Jordan Motors, 23 Montague lane (between Harcourt St and Camden St). PH 4752774

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. The engine is just the 2.0Tdi 138bhp. I would have thought all the Audi dealers in the country would have similar pricing but looking at that price list from Audi Blackwater obviously not. I dont work in Dublin but if the garage was good i would make the trip.

Give him a shout tomorrow and see what price he quotes, if he's competitive go for it. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a good price - I think a full service on my A4 is about €200. His opening times are handy too - opens at about 8:15 and shuts about 6:30.

Just wondering,is it seriously 225 Euro to put an iPod cable in an Audi?

As already stated in the thread stay away from the main dealer and try find a good independent. It is possible to get the job done using genuine Audi parts for much less than you were quoted. For example our price on the A6 2.0 TDI timing belt kit and water pump change is €390. A major service with all filters and full inspection is about €240. The 08 A6 2.0 TDI costs more to service than an A4 2.0 TDI of the same year due to the extra cost of the air and cabin filters.

Give George Dalton in Portlaoise a call, he knows his VAGs! :)

+1 for George.. very nice guy too :)

Or go North - I got the same job done for my 2.0 TDI Passat the year before last in VW Enniskillen for €700 including the service after getting similar ridiculous quotes down here.

(although the quote I got from VW Drogheda wasn't too bad at €850 including a rental for the day, so pays to shop outside Dublin too!)
