Has anyone compared the two side by side to see which is better in the wind? We're trynna decide which one to bring out tonight alongside the .243.

Im told the hmr is really effected by wind and is pointless in this weather.

They will be using 40gr remingtons in the mag and 20gr hornady in the hmr.

all shooting will be under 80-100 yards.

Nothing is pointless, it's just harder to achieve your goal without sufficient practice and experience.
So the key is more practice, practice, practice and more mathematics i.e ballistic calculations and the 17hmr will become as good as and caliber.

Yes the .17 is slightly more likely to drift in the wind but not that much out to 100 yards (maybe 2 inches) depending on strength of wind of course ! I've shot mine in some pretty gusty conditions and its been fine but maybe thats cos I shoot it alot more than the wmr and know how the wind affects it ! You should be absolutely fine out to 100 yards just allow an inch or 2 for windage ! The thing is that even though its a very light bullet , its travelling so fast that at distances out to 100 or so yards it doesnt really have time to be affected by wind ! Have to say I have been shooting the .22wmr for years and since buying the hmr a few years ago the wmr has only been out a handful of times ! :D

As said practice practice makes perfect I've shot both owned a 22 mag swear by it great little gun bit expensive to feed though going out tonight with my 22 lr see how it reacts with this wind

Ah i know tis all possible with practice in the wind. dont have much of that done though.

headed out today and was getting decent groups at 80 yards with it. used 3 different types of ammo and the 20gr hornady seemed to be effected the most by the wind, (about a inch) compared to the cci 17gr tnt and the remington 17gr vmax. expected the wind to have alot more of an effect with all the talk. the only problem was keeping on target with the gale
