I will be travelling through Southeast Asia for the next few months, I am just wondering if Work for accomodation is a popular option in Southeast Asia or is it rare to find these opportunity,s.

It is very popular in the other country,s I stayed in such as Australia and New Zealand, but of course every country is different.

Also this sounds quite sketchy and dangerous but Hitch hiking through Southeast Asia I would imagine is quite rare for backpackers as it is a poor area but I am wondering if anybody has had any expierences with this and whether it was a safe option for backpackers

Well you wouldn't be picking fruit or something like you might do in Aus, but lots of backpackers cover their costs by teaching English if that's an option for you.

Teach English or work in hostels.. Teaching will tie you into the culture and the place much more but hostel work is generally more "fun". I teach English and have a lot of VNese friends whereas hostel work leaves you dealing with backpackers instead. For a 3/6 month stint, hostels are a better bet imo but any longer and you'd go crazy.

I did a small bit in Sihanoukville in Cambodia.. Handing out flyers on the beach for an hour for a free dorm bed. Met guys there who'd been doing it for months. Plenty of places around everywhere, even here in Hanoi. A few of my friends here do it. But you need a strong personality and no respect for your liver.. I couldn't be the party starter everyday for months.

Have you any outdoor skills? Wakeboarding, surfing, climbing etc.? You can get jobs being an instructor aswell which would be good.

I have general hostel skills but I would call them more standard life skills, I have done the flyer skill in Australia. I don,t have adventure sport skills but I wish I did. Id love that job,
